Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Nepali Congress General Secretary, has been elected the first President of the republic of Nepal in the presidential run-off held today in the Constituent Assembly. Yadav, backed by a coalition of NC, UML, MPRF and other fringe parties the CA, got 308 votes-almost a dozen more than needed for the simple majority- while his rival Ram Raja Prasad Singh, who was considered the Maoist candidate for the presidency, ended up with 282 votes. 590 out of 594 lawmakers had cast their votes in the president poll run-off that kicked off at around 8 and ended at around 11 this morning, according to the Election Commissioner’s office.

The re-election was held as none of the candidates reached the magic number, 298, in the first round of election of President on Saturday (19 July). MPRF candaite Parmananda Jha was elected vice president on that day. Supporters of NC candidate Dr Yadav had gathered at the Constituent Assembly hall in New Baneshwor in the capital to celebrate his victory.
National People’s Front Nepal, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, CPN-United and Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekata Party who had previously boycotted the Saturday’s election to pick the president and vice president participated in today’s poll. Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, who has four CA members, refrained from the poll run-off today as well. Dr Yadav had received 283 out of total 573 votes cast while Singh gained 270 votes.
The chances of NC candidate Dr Yadav’s victory had gotten stronger after different fringe parties expressed their support for him. CPN-UML and Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) maintained their positions favouring Dr Yadav, while the National People’s Front Nepal (NPFN) and the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) who had previously boycotted Saturday’s election also voted the NC presidential candidate. Likewise, the Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekata Party, Loktatrik Samajwadi Dal and Nepal Pariwar Dal who have one member each in the CA have supported him. Even the two independent CA members had announced to vote in favour of Dr Yadav. Similarly, CPN-ML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, CPN-United and Rastriya Janashakti Party who have nine, eight, five and three members respectively in the CA expressed solidarity to NC candidate Dr Yadav. Amik Sherchan of People’s Front Nepal and Shyam Sundar Gupta of Nepal Sadbhawana Party-Anandidevi have also announced to vote for Dr Yadav.
On the other hand, Maoist candidate Singh has the support of 226 Maoist lawmakers, 21 Terai-Madhes Democratic Party, nine Sadbhawana Party, two Sadbhwana Party-Anandidevi, seven People’s Front Nepal, two Nepal Janta Dal and one Dalit Janajati Party lawmaker.

there may be one caveat– giddey Koirala might look at this as yet another option for him to become the PM of Nepal… and that will spell disaster for this fragile coalition that has jsut developed and will allow the Maoists to make a strong comeback. So, now the fate of the Maoists is strangely in the hands of selfish and corrupt Giddey Koirala who was given a clear mandate by the people to retire by defeating 10 out of his 11 cronies and relatives. Regardless of the outcome of this election, Nepalese still failed to establish system, and because of that, majoriy of Nepalese are still in dark. Nepalese failed to establish:
(1) System requiring candidates to provide with their contributions to the development of Nepal
(2) System requiring candidates’ vision.
(3) System requiring candidates to prove 100% loyalty to Nepal.

It’s good to have a historical president amidst the political turmoils. What I always wanted to say is Maoists leaders are the most corrupted Hyenas who came from the jungle with bloody history, killing our brothers and sisters, and dreaming about big project to exploit the country more than ever. They threatened the public during the elections and got majority vote out of terror. Now when Dr. Ram V. Yadav was elected as the President with votes from many other significant parties, they outright rejected the idea of forming/taking part in the government, because now they are pretty much sure that they can’t exploit and tear apart the nation/its treasure as they wished (which we can very well interpret from Prachanda and Baburam’s words), they are not going for the government. Still, Prachanda says that they won and it was their idea to have a Terai candidate. Why didn’t they support him then? What’s the background of the candidate of Singh whom they are backing for president? Moreover, whenever something happens against their wish, it’s foreign hand. Aren’t there other hands than just those bloody Maobadis? Are they the only citizens of Nepal who killed the naive citizens? Everyone can very well predict how they want to betray other parties/leaders/citizens by saying one thing and doing the other. Examples are they their fake alignment with CPNUML for presidency. Mr. Jhal Nath Khanal now seems wise that Maoists are just like that. They have never done anything good. If we compare the ratio of good and bad deeds they’ve done so far would be less than 1:100. Having their Gorillas as CA members, who do NOT even know how to cast their votes, what do they think they can do? Do we think they have the concept of New Nepal from such people who have no background than BLOOD? Never!
It’s time for all the citizens to be aware that these Maoists as no good than others, but the worst ones! We can imagine New Nepal with those leaders who are well educated, who understand what it’s like to be a citizen of a proud nation, who value democratic system where nobody takes the biggest share but everyone feels accommodated and having their good share, who diplomatically tackles national and foreign issues. First of all let me congratulate Dr.Ram Baran Yadav for craeting the history of nepal by becoming a first president.
I am really happy and satisfied with this good news. I am really satisfied with few friends that we got the real leader and right choice for president.
Really after a long time we are seeing highly educated leader in nepal and we are lucy to get him. we should feel proud with the president.
Nepal is on the way to change now. We all nepalese should unite now forgetting the feeling of caste, race and culture. After all we are only nepali not pahadi and madhesi or any other.
People of nepal have erased such feelings from their mind and also from heart by electing both the major leaders(president and vice president) from madhes community and I hope such feeling will never return back.
We should have to focus only on to develop our mother land nepal by education, road and water and by food. Lot of people in nepal are dying without geeting the food, sheltar and water. But the politicians are there who used to think for their benifits only rather than thinking the primary needs of people.

Vice president Parmananda Jha wore Dhoti and took oath in Hindi language. This has to be not only opposed by all Nepalese of all background and ethnicities but also rendered unconstitutional when new constitution is written.
The present constitution allows a person elected for an office to take oath in Hindi. Is Hindi a language of any ethnic group in Nepal? If not, why does the constitution allow an elected official to take oath in Hindi? What is the rationale? This provision was largely due to Maoists, though other political parties were also complicit with it. Do we need more evidence to declare Maoists as a pro-Indian force?

By this we are sending very wrong message to all judges working in the judicial service of Nepal: The message is: Earn as much money as you can through corruption, and if worst of worst happens you will get opportunity to become the vice president of Nepal.

Dr. Ram Baran Yadav is highly respected by people of all ethenic groups because he is a true nationalist, whereas Paramanda Jha is respected only by MJF because he is in the gang that is interested to dis integrate Nepal.
