Existing political events strongly suggest that Nepal is on its way to being ruled by an autocratic political system. Leader of this new system, Mustang-rider Dr. Baburam Bhattarai (or Dr-sab as some people call him) has accelerated speed of his vehicle to lead the country into an autocratic system where the Maoist party will have its say on all important issues including those that are to be handled by an independent judiciary.

Democracy in Nepal is on the verge of collapse. Most of the indicators of democracy are either dismantled or dead. The basic notion of democracy- ‘check and balance’- has been destroyed and now there is only the check of the communist-led government.
Why Nepal is not a democratic country? Because:
1) we have been ruled by bureaucrats at local level for around 12 years,
2) periodic election which is primary condition of democracy has been elusive,
3) there is no ‘check and balance’ among major state organs in absence of the main organ, that is, legislature,
4) our mandate to the Head of the State and the Prime Minister has already expired, and
5) independence of judiciary has been under question.
During 17 months of the premiership of incumbent Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, the entire country has realized that this is a man good for nothing than study.
He created the situation where people have started to be depressed from frustration. A never-second in study, our Dr-sab has apparently failed to utilize his capacity for the prosperity of the country. Instead, he has succeeded to dismantle every well established cannon of democracy including the Constituent Assembly.
Nevertheless, I am sure, Maoists have been doing the things which they wanted and the way they wanted. One of the goals of the Maoists was to get hold power at any cost. And they did it. Now all state organs are held by Maoist party and its political allies- some Madhes-based parties.
Maoists, to lure and to betray international community, use the word democracy and often show their commitment for it (peace and constitution are the buzz words for them). But we should be clear that their version of democracy does not include Freedom of Expression and exclude censorship. For them, periodical election and parliament are nothing to deal with.
During decade long armed conflict, the party has dismantled all local structures. Immediately after their arrival in peace process, our Dr-sab, who was supposed to be a true democrat by many (including some intellect), created Young Communist League (YCL) and ordered this wing to beat, thrash and defame urban intellect group to crate and instill fear.
Accordingly, our Dr-sab recently met chief justice of Supreme Court and asked the chief justice to settle contempt of court charge from his own desk. If it is true, he has nothing to do to hold power (Satta Kabja) because he has already held all state mechanism.
