Had Maoists not gone mad and pulled out from the government, we would be voting today to elect the Constituent Assembly that would abolish the monarchy from Nepal and bring out new constitution. Election didn’t happen because Maoists were afraid of their possible pathetic loosing in the elections. Holding of CA elections is one of the key parts of the peace process that officially began with the signing of the peace agreement (which celebrated its first anniversary yesterday) and it’s not unusual that without the participation of the one side of the peace agreement, no election can happen. If Maoists are serious enough to give a conclusive end to the peace process, they must not hesitate to go to the election which will provide further bases for the peace process itself.
Maoists should stop their republic-first-then-only-elections rots and join forces the other parties in the Six Party Alliance to declare new dates for the elections. This is the only way forward. The petty political talks of changing the government leadership (from NC to UML) and mass street agitations will not help the progressive and democratic republic forces in Nepal.

Yes, maoists deprived us from our genuine right to vote and yet there were many including this writer, were blindly supportive of their motive. Seems people are awakened from maoist illusion and I hope the trend will continue and grow.
The only way to make a peaceful wayout is to voice distaste ,disappoval,dissapointment, anguish against Maoists and SPAs, which will ultimately make them realize that there are not many people besides their own cadres behind them. They are actually isolated from people and it’s our duty to let them know that. As SPA went ‘sati’ with maoists there is actually political vaccum prevalent in the country, sooner it is fulfilled the better!!

last time the SPAm govt put the date in the aspicious aniversary of signing the peace accord now this time they should even over do it.
the best way would be sacrificing a goat before annoucing the next election date. the sacrifice of the animal is sure to bring good luck as proven in case of Nepal airline copirating. also if GP would go to kumari to get blessing before the declaration of the election date and comrade lotus flower do some HOMO Yaggya the extra effort would make sure that the CA would be held in time and properly.
the so called agitating parties kept asking during the so-called April revolution- why was there no constituent assembly in Nepal although it was promised in 2007 after the RANA regime was toppled- in the past one and half years, that question has been answered y the political parties themselves. None of the political parties have ever wanted the constituent assembly- and now that they are in power by hook and by crook, why would they hand it over to anyone else by going for elections. What is in display in Nepalese politics right now is a big sham– the corrupt political parties are even more corrupt now and the terrorists are terrorising the public even more with the army spending most of their time playing volleyball. And then these thugs talk to the public, they keep repeating their slogans of “janata”, “sambhidhan sabha”, “agragami”, “punar samrachana” and the biggest sham of it all is “saat party ekata” and “peace process”. How long will these tugs keep fooling the public and how much longer will the Nepalese people remain mum?

only the election is not the durable solution.the entire peace process should be resolved first and then only the constitutional assembly.what we must think is now the upcoming elsection shouldnot be the “gyanendra ko shaili”jasto election. to be the free and fair election settlement and establishment of peace is main agenda. yes,i will vote after than.
