No new date has been fixed. The Election Commission alone does not have the right to fix a new date.
In a very sad political development in Nepal, the Election Commission today suspended the entire process of Constitution Assembly elections scheduled for 22 November after it received a request this morning from the government to do so. The government, on its part, decided to request the Commission after the alliance of seven parties decided to postpone the electoral process. The seven party alliance (that includes the Maoist) decided to postpone the election programs after the Maoists expressed their unwillingness to participate in the election (without first declaring Nepal a republic and/or adopting full proportional voting system) in a meeting of the seven parties held at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala’s residence at Baluwatar this morning. The Election Commission that had completed all preparations for the elections thanked all political parties, leaders, the media, the general public and international community for extending their support during commissionโs preparation work for the polls.
CPN-UML, Janamorcha Nepal and Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party have written notes of dissent on the agreement, UML leader Jhalanath Khanal said, according to the Himalayan Times. Earlier yesterday, the leaders had agreed to put on hold the election schedule till the special House session after no consensus was reached on Maoists two key demands on republic and electoral system. UML leaders blamed Nepali Congress and the Maoists for the deadlock. The party said it cannot agree on postponing the polls at any cost. Nepali Congress leaders said they opted to postponing the poll process rather than confronting the Maoists. “We thought it was better to postpone the polls rather than confronting the Maoists,” today’s Kantipur daily quotes Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel as saying. (more here)
Reactions: United States embassy in Kathmandu was quick to issue a statement saying that the US was “disappointed at the suspension of the CA election process.” The statement said: “It is important that all parties firmly commit themselves to quickly establish a new election date…. We urge the Government of Nepal, with the full support of all parties, immediately to address the key elements of the Comprehensive Peace Accord which remain unfulfilled and to implement its agreements with various ethnic groups. The period between now and the Constituent Assembly election should be used to show the people of Nepal that the Interim Government is responsive to and can meet its commitments to make a better life for the people of this country.”

Now, let me see how this horny Neil is writing here and there. He says,
It should be “Autocrats come on the way of election and Democracy slaughtered by maoists” not to be biased on either side. He further writes, “Get the Maoists to agree on no republic before elections so that canโt claim it as their victory, get the Maoists to agree on a Mixed system so they lose the support of their constituency in the Terai and get the Maoists to give up any significant ministries all for the sake of having the elections held on June 9th while they still enjoy popularity”.
If maoists lose on mixed election system, then, why the fuck ur ass is burning man? That shows that these are bloody terrorists on whom people do not have any faith. This shows that they do not have election base, that is to say people do not want them to be in parliament as they are the problem creators.
Then delay the elections to give him enough time to unite the Nepali congress that is called leadership to make two factions a single party. u (so the mixed system benefits them the most) accuse the Maoists of delaying the elections when they raise issues of being sold out and then write whatever constitution.
This is a great plan if you donโt want the Maoists to have any representation. Which is why the U.S. and India are so adamant about elections not being delayed now, and were so unconcerned about delaying the process in March. Itโs wonderful if you consider your interests to be marginalizing the Maoists at all costs. Many of yours are. However, if you want an actual peaceful resolution to the conflict you might think differently.”
We want actual peaceful resolution and that too more than u whites-who have been taught white race supremacy from childhood, but not at the cost of losing our freedoms and we never be ready to lick any bastards’ ass just because he has AK 47 in his hand.

Here this Neil is also lying the whole world about the cativities of maoists by propagating his nonsense views without any reasoned views.
Rule for People
Here is the summary of what we should understand:
Nepali people are being fooled by politicians in the name of democracy
Just declaring a republic won’t solve problems
We should cut down on politics if we want to see progress
Nepalis freedom not just from feudalism and dirty politics, but from ‘BIG BROTHERS’
We have to make our society fair
We have enough manpower to make our own country
we are the 40th largest nation among 221 nations
We are a civilization that is over 2000 years old
The People should decide how they should be governed
We need to reform in many aspects
We have the choice to be rich
Let the rule of People prevail
Read below if interested..
Nepali people are being fooled by politicians in the name of democracy
The Nepali people are really being fooled by the politicians. What Nepal needs is an economy that
thrives. For this to happen, Nepalis need access to education, transportation, health, insurance,
a market where Nepali produce is sellable. We certainly cannot feed the growing number of
politicians and their suicidal agendas.Certainly, people will say they need freedom. Democracy
does mean freedom, but it also means respecting it. If you disrupt the lives of others, it is not
democracy, it is anarchy and selfishness.
Just declaring a republic won’t solve problems
Just declaring the country a republic will never solve the problems we face. If that were to
happen, many republics will be well off. The list of world poorest countries and
Failed states
have a lot of republics in them, because these had undergone civil wars, corruption and poor
governance.
We should cut down on politics if we want to see progress
We need to cut the number of political players, we cannot afford 128 parties and their plentiful
followers. They exploit the most productive age group of 18-30 years old into doing ridiculous
things like burning tyres, throwing stones.
Nepalis freedom not just from feudalism and dirty politics, but from ‘BIG BROTHERS’
Feudalism is hardcored into our mentality. Many festivals we celebrate have feudal elements. The
government should look after the interests of these people, not those of foreign players like
India, China and the US, and donor agencies. The civil society also is full of biased individuals.
These cannot be trusted as well.
We have to make our society fair
For a long time, we have let only select classes run the country, this should be changed. All
classes of Nepalis should have a say in Nepal’s affairs and all classes should have access to
power and privileges.
We have enough manpower to make our own country
We have enough skilled and unskilled manpower, in Nepal and abroad. We need to recall all the
brains that have gone abroad, give them dual citizenships, and offer them incentives to develop
educational centers in Nepal. We should restructure cities, build new ones.We need transportation
networks. We need economic policies that will promote Nepali industry, trade and commerce. We
need people to work. We need to excel in sports, IT, Communication, research, medicine etc.
Nepalis have shown a lot of times, while serving others, especially the British that they are
very capable.
We are the 40th largest nation among 221 nations
There are 3 crore Nepalis, which is a huge number. We are the 40th largest nation among 221
nations in terms of population( See Statistics).
We are a civilization that is over 2000 years old
Diversity has always been a part of Nepal. For example, the Newars are a mix of people of Indian
origin and Tibetan origin. Lichhavis were the same. And Modern Nepal is the same.We should all be
proud we are of different ethnicities because that teaches us getting along. Let us not be
divided because we are pahadis and madhesis; Bahuns, Chhetris, Newars, Rais, Limbus, Tharus,
Gurungs, Magars, Yadavs, Karnas, Sherpas, and so on. Let us be united that we are Nepalis, who
have a separate civilization from that of India, and which is over 2000 years old. Let us be
proud of a civilization that gave birth to the 4th largest religion (See link)
We need to reform in many aspects
For Nepal to prosper, all Nepalis should renounce dirty politics. Like America, or the UK, we can
have a left wing party and a right wing party. There should be a supreme parliament. We can have
a king/queen or a president, as the people choose through a referendum. The primeminister/
president will have executive powers. The judiciary should be independent. We need a superior
army, airforce, police, armed police, border security force and intelligence agencies.
We have the choice to be rich
The Malla dynasty made Kathmandu valley rich because of trade. The same is possible now as well,
because we live, and have always lived, between two rich nations. Nepal has to be the Port it
once used to be.
Let the rule of people prevail
Let the rule of people prevail, for it is not the king, the queen, the president, the political
parties, the army, not even the gods who make our country, it is the Nepalis who make Nepal. Let
us build a country which will look after its people and whose people will look after itself.
Jaya Nepal!
CA election is not only the main thing, the system of governance n other that comes after it is the main issue. dont want to b rule by this bunch of giddhe bahuns again. they r sure to ruin the country again n again, those suckers. i had rather live in limbuwan state under the system of our indegenous poeple rather than this gidhhe bahuns. work everything out n then decide the fate of the nation by election or any other methods rather than leave many things unsolved n conduct CA hurriedly to face another big prob, possibly protests, bandhs, revolt n even war.
Well,
First thing to be done is killing communists….and then democrats…bastards…
Who is responsible for all raucous?
I should say Nepal is ‘FAILED STATE’ or declare it ‘RED REPUBLIC’.

hey you all gyane’s followers, maintain civility as requested.
After all it was gyane’s design to derail CA.
Dont blame maoist. They are for the nepalese people and from the nepalese people.

MAOIST ARE SENSELESS MURDERERS ONLY, NOTHING ELSE. THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT CIVILIZED POLITICS. FIRST THEY FINISHED KING AND NOW THE TURN IS SAAT-DAL WALA LEADERS ESPECIALLY CONGRESSIS. MY COMMON SENSE SAYS THAT THEY ONLY UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE OF GUN.
dumb mao’s slaves think postponing CA elect. would give them more time to prepare for CA Elec. give them time to improve their image or get back their past support,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but they do not no more time they take, more support they will loose.——–why, coz. the moaist umbrella org. is made up of criminals, drunks, etc and moaist party is joined by those individuals who are unfriendly, illmannered , provocative persons.———————– how could the party with this kind of personality can be popular in long term.
Neil,
So are you admitting that Maoists made a “secret” deal with the government to agree to the mixed electoral system without actually believing in it? Oh my, and I thought they had such principles and idealogy!
Can you remember why the elections on June 9th were postponed? Maoists at the time too obstructed other parties functioning at all outside the valley. They sure believe in participatory democracy, don’t they?
Really the true beneficiaries of the CA elections being postponed at the hardcore Royalists and more importantly the MAOISTS! It’s as simple as that. As worthless as the other parties are they still have their support bases around the country. The Maoists on the other hand would have done miserably in free and fair elections. It’s no suprise that they have orcastrated this drama to defer the CA elections into the future. They have already shown that they have no intentions of functioning within a democratic framework. I have said this since day one!

Does history repeat?
Some years ago on Ashwin 18 (October 4) bad Deuba was kicked out by worse Gyanendra. Both of them had no respect for peopleโs verdict.
This year SPA-M decided to eschew people.
No constituent assembly polls then!
Why?
Because these fking political baloneys have no guts to face people.
They donโt respect people, they long for power only.
They are but sophist.
Let me spit my venom now.

Well at least the Maoists now know that the people they claim to represent actually detest the Maoists. They fear the people that’s why they wanted to avoid the elections to the CA. With this a fact now I wonder what the Maoists next move will be? Join forces with Gyane to rule without the peoples mandate? They’re such power crazy scums that’s distinctly possible.
Dinesh Ji, Thank You very much for allowing my comments above though with some moderation. Sometimes, it’s so f*****g frustrating that you just feel like vommitting some words without caring anything.
I hope to see myself in good mood after sometime to post comment in most civilized language ๐
Can we the Nepali people have our say on the Republicanism or the Monarchy or are these unrepresentative swines are going to hijack that from us the people.
They keep forgetting that they were/are not elected by the people. We the citizen of Nepal should decide what we want for our country, not these unelected representatives, pure and simple!
I did spend some time thinking- mahesh cumar (18:33:19) : comment.
It really has some logic and relationship with Bahuns and the elections. The postponement serves more to bahuns rather than anybody else. If the CA elections held in present context not only Maoists but lot of Bahuns will also be eliminated from political scenario, most of them are in leadership of various so called popular parties. It was already agreed to give sizable number of seats to Janajatis, Madhesis and other minorities. The remaining seats would also be contested hard by new comers and non Bahuns in all these parties, so why bother holding an election when you bound to loose everthing you have. Why not going for status quo when you can govern without any responsibility and accountability. When you can go on demanding actions against killers of 21 people in revolution 2 and still be proud of killing more than 80 people in Terai( Gaur+Kapilvastu). When all Bahun(Chettri) leadership can enjoy all new gain status of head of the state why bother risking that?? What is the guarantee for all these parties that their Bahun(chettri) leadership will win if there would be a direct elections( no wonder they are asking for Proportional Representation).
Though it looks like Royalists are the sole benificiaries of this current debacle but the real benifit goes once again to Bahuns.
Hmmm, I used to criticise people when they complain of Bahunbad and blah blah, but I am feeling a sudden change, there may be some serious conspiracy going on. The emergence of ethnic groups, indigenious groups, the heavy power shift from Pahad to Terai, the sudden rise of of people whose voice was unheard before. Who is threatened most specifically by all these evolution?? Which traditional way of life and way of governance is being challenged by this sudden transition?? Yes, you’ve got it right, the traditional power centers,ie, the Bahuns and Chettris. I am damn sure now they will never hold an election until and unless their mere existance is threatened.
Otherwise why they agreed so easily to defer the elections without any long debate and consultations. They were preparing for this for sometime and they tried to fool people once again, but let’s make things utterly clear, without elections the current government is illegitimate and they will be held accountable if things further deteriorate!!
Enough is enough!!
prism,
it wasn’t a “secret.” It was in all the newspapers 10 months ago. Pay attention.
Of course, thatโs what the NC is banking on. They are assuming Nepal is full of nothing but a bunch ignorant bhate who don’t remember that it was in fact the Nepali Congress that delayed elections in a transparent bid to unite their factions. The notion that anybody here could expect the NC to so significantly change the conditions of the elections toward their favor without conceding anything to the other side and still expect the elections to happen should be offensive to most of you. If I was a Nepali, after reading the level of pabulum spewed forth from the comments on this site on a daily basis, I would be seriously embarrassed.
It’s unfortunate that Horning does not know his arse from the moon, due to too much brain washing by hanging out with maoists. No idea of what the rest of the people are going through. Seriously lost in translation. Come to think of it he sounds exactly like a translation of Prachanda. And looking at the sentiments not only on this blog but in the streets – everywhere, to suggest we Nepalis don’t know what’s going on. I think we have given enough room for these lost cases ( a simple of case of “gore chala” syndrome). Time to get our heads together – Shree Shrestha had a good idea – get a constitution together from the streets.
Mr. Horny Neil,
R not u embarassed yet for ur stupid views? Shameless guy u are man. For being American, U must have thousands if not millions of reasons to feel humiliated coz of ur governments actions. May be repeated embarrassment has given u power to bear with all these non-sense that ur devil n empty brain is creating.
Write something aganist Maoists wait the day of Crucifixion, then, u know the pain of nepalese people of remote villages. U deserve the fate of Jesus in most ignominious way.
Thinking of what we really want doesnt take time.
A stable and prosperous nation .
When first Gyanendra took over ppl were hopeful that something might materialize (no protest and all celebrations then) but not to be.The failure of 15 months rule led to desperate ppl protesting and overthrowing Gyanendra.(to tell you all i see monarchy as an obsolete institutions but i think all decisons regarding it should b done through the CA elections)
So the real question is not abt communist republic or democratic republic or ceremonial monarchy.I dont think ppl reallly care and they shouldn’t either coz its stability, economic and social development that really matters and not these hollow principles .
Look at China its doing well under Communism,Russia has its own system of governance and it is also making a good come back,England is fine with a monarchy and so do India and Pakistan.
And give a damn to what the so called saviours of democracy have to say about our
system of governance and structure of our state.I hope all of us know the double standards adopted by these countries ,like India on Burma(supporting junta regime) and U.S in Pakistan, who care about nothing but their vested interests.
We all need is a quick end to this transition phase .Unfortunately, may be due to the royalist or maoist or the SPA,its really taking very very long .Let me tell you this is no time to play the blame game ,but we as nepalese should unite to put pressure on the maoist and the SPA to conduct elections at the earliest. There is no alternative to elections all of us know that and if that doesn’t happen we will surely lose our identity as a nation .We will b the next Afghanistan if not a state of India.
So plz plz lets unite from all fronts madesh ,pahad, himal to pressure these parties rather than quarelling among ourselves.
jai nepal
Neil,
Why not do your homework and link me the newspaper articles you are quoting? You’re not referring to op-ed pieces in Janadesh, are you?
If you have been paying attention, NC is already united. Why delay elections when the unifications has already happened, I don’t quite get your logic.
And are you seriously saying NC significantly changed the conditions of elections? Or did you mistype it for CPN-M? The last time I checked, it was the Maoists that put the 22 demands including that of _changing_ the electoral system enshrined in the interim consitution they themselves helped write.
I agree with you on one thing. I am quite embarrassed to be a Nepali after reading the reports on the attack on press freedom masquerading as worker’s union. And I think you should be rather embarrassed too about celebrating the idea that it is okay to burn and shut down newspapers just because you don’t agree with what’s printed.
dear Mr. horning,
since you know more about nepal and nepali ppl more than anyone. including me an ignorant culo kissing nepali. i was wondering if it was possible to exchange my nepali nagrikta ie. citizenship card with your green card. as i do not really care what is happening in nepal and you on the other hand seem to be up to date even faster about the issues about nepal i think my citizen card could serve you verywell. hey you will not need to pay visa and no one will call you names because you are a foreigner. i m sure all your friends of UN, UNHRC, etc etc etc etc. will also agree about this. my, just the fact that you have all these important friends in all these important places is like an enlightment to me. i dont have any important friend. im just an average joe whos kinda eveyone has forgotton. so i also want to forget about everyone. and you seem to know more and see more and do more and live more of nepal then me i would seriously like that you take my offer seriously for you see its all quite different when you are a genuine citizen of nepal and you dont have any important friend.
comrade “Neil kantha”
do not be afraid from these gyane’s kukkurs comments. They all are paid to write against our party, our leaders and our movements. They are jealous of our achievements.
The logics you have presented over here is generous and can not be beaten. Keep up your good writing.
We know our great party will regain the peoples sympathies with in few months and guarantee that we will win two thirds of the seats in CA.
then we will do what ever we want to these gyane’s kukkur. Till them let them bark.

NEPAL: FIRST BREAKFAST THEN CA ELECTIONS
TGW Analyst
Nepalese have long maintained tradition of quarrelling over petty political issues. However, when it come to the โBHOJAN-foodโ and that too if it is free, then they surprisingly become one and even forget to write the note of โdissentโ.
This is how the matter stood yesterday when the matter of CA poll deferral cropped up and how the quarrelling โleadersโ agreed to talk on the poll deferral after the โBHOJANโ which they enjoyed collectively in a โfriendlyโ manner.
Look how the CA poll deferral was agreed upon by all after the โlavishโ breakfast served by the ANMOL catering.
Leaders of all the seven parties had a โjoke sessionโ prior to the writing of the note of dissent on behalf of their respective political parties.
Madhav Kumar Nepal, the UML chatter box, said, โWe are not ready for the poll postponementโ. Sher Bahadur Deuba-the prime minister in the making- cut a joke at the UML leader by saying him, โYaarโฆthen go and submit your name list to the Election Commission, why you are here?โ
Three corrections were made on the draft for the agreement on Poll postponement. The draft was prepared by Mr. Bimalendra Nidhi first and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai later polished the previous draft and finally Ram Chandra Poudel and C.P. Mainlai gave a final shape to the said draft. Unsubstantiated reports say that the first draft was in an alien language.
The Seven Party Leaders unanimously agreed to have a โlavish breakfastโ first before discussing the issue further. They had Jeri, Puri and Tarkari for the breakfast. Anmol catering served the โbreakfastโ. The breakfast provided an opportunity to mingle with each other. The mingling scene was simply โsuperbโ, eye witnesses said.
Mr. Bhoj Raj Ghimire- the chief secretary suddenly appeared in the meeting venue and informed the SPA leaders present there that he just received a call from the chief election commissioner, Mr. Bhoj Raj Pokharel who asks him that what he should do with the CA poll deferral as some other political parties had already come to the EC to submit their list of the candidates?
Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal and Amik Serchan prepared a note of dissent immediately. Mr. Rohit had it prepared last night at his residence.
Tensions yet again erupted on the issue of who would sign the agreement first. Madhav Nepal and Amik Serchan said they would sign at the end.
Mr. Nepal and Mr. Serchan both in the bracket indicated F.M (Farak Maat, different opinion) along their signatures. The rest of leaders giggled, saying FM perhaps means Former Minister.
A case of such high import and significant for the nation was taken so โlightlyโ by our โaugustโ leaders who even after three polls deferral wish to โbuild a new Nepalโ.
Analysts remain puzzled to guess how the New Nepal would look like?
[With strong inputs from Naya Patrika National Daily]
hope,
Your points have some logic. That is why I am repeatedly telling that ethnic parties should wake up and overtake these spaM thugs. That is the only solution of today because once the ethnic parties wake up and overtake the power all these thugs cannot raise even their head-up. Because they cannot go against the local ethnic groups like how maoist wiped out from terai. 12% of the population cannot represent the Nepal.
GIRIJA SHOULD RESIGN NOW IF HE HAS ANY MORAL/POLITICAL ETHIC.

For those of you playing little nationality provocation games…
MY GOVERNMENT told Koirala to do this. It was MY GOVERNMENT’S plan. It is my government who wants to marginalize the Maoists at the cost of peace. It is my government constantly whispering into Koirala’s ear. It is my government that didn’t care about elections on June 9th but now says they’re absolutely necessary. It is My government who won’t take the terrorist label off. Oh, and it was my government who gave 20,000 m-16s to the King even after he disolved parliament and when the RNA led the world in forced disappearances.
If you want to associate me with a horrible government, you get a package deal. furthermore, if you don’t want opinions from foreigners, I suggest you go read a Nepali medium blog.
Neil,
I thank American Government for that. But frankly i would rather associate with a horrible government than a horrible terrorist. Are you blind of the actrocities caused by the Maoist. 11 years of gone year for their political experiment. Death carnage being explained as scientific.
If American government would not have supported with the goddies we would be in a pol pot regime and perhaps you would be their american advisor.
Go home buddy.
Neil:
I appreciate the US government’s stance on the Maoists. I was/am 100% behind ambassador Moriarity rethoric and stance with regards to the Maoists.
US government is well justified for not taking the terrorist tag off the Maoists and I am grateful for the military aid! These Maoists bastards need to be shot in the head.
Ignore the comments of these morons above who are incoherant in their comments. They are pissed at your deplorable, blind support of the Maoists but can’t express their frustrations so they have revereted to attacking the US government. Forget them.
I have to say though that your comments supporting the Maoists actions with Kantipur was astonishing. If I remember correctly you seemed to say they were justified because Kantipur was publishing negative stories. What the fcuk Neil?
1. What’s wrong with negative stories on the Maoists when that’s really they have done?
2. It’s a free press meaning any newspaper can publish whatever the hell it is they want. What part of free press don’t you get?
Pol pot Puspa Kamal Dahal:
You caused so much damage to this once so peaceful country by destroying infrastructures, you made the lives of thousands of innocent people miserable by killing their loved ones, and you created ethenic conflict to divide once so strongly united country. Thus, I would like to reward you for what you did to this country. Let me know how long do you want to live on this planet? one month, two months, three months, or six months. I am determined to act accordingly. Your desire to become the first president of Nepal will never be materialized as long as sun continues to rise and i am alive.
Horning.
The only one playing games or more like an experiment is you. We cannot afford to play cames buddy.
P.S. Nepali medium blog? How conceited, as if the English language is an American invention. As for opinions from foreigners we have had dime a dozen, time for us to form our own.
There is famouse saying that ” People get the government they deserve” I am begining to wonder if this saying is right. Are we such a asshole to deserve theser asshole leaders ? Time to think.
and another issue with our comrade firangi a.k.a Neil horny. I am also begining to seriously doubt that he is C.I.A agent whose job is to increase the hate of Maoist and gauge the mood of people of Nepal by posting these pro-maoist postings. What do you think ??
i fail to understand why everyone is getting intimidated by this guy?????? aka niel. first of all if people believe in democracy then everyone has the right to form an opinion. and more over he says he is american so why even everone needs to react so voilently to what he says. he cant even vote so what he writes is all nothing more then just a comment. and the best is to ignore it. its an old case of ‘afno jiu ma bhaisee dekhdaina aru ko jumra kotacha’.
also in internet anyone can be anyone for example im jesus crist right now.
i see few PEOPLE here & for that matter in Nepal overall who were gonna do this and that if things went against PEOPLEs wishes. This is a big bitchslap in your faces …. have fun PEOPLE
Jesus Christ, I think it is the other way around. It seems that we are intimidating Neil since he is refusing to answer questions anymore.
Although I disagree with Neil, I very much welcome having a dialogue with him here. It’s much better to engage in an open dialogue than to engage in violent street action.
Girija is planning to become the First President of Nepal without public mandate. The real problem of this country is Girija. He is the one who introduced the maoist insurgency. He is responsible for both Nepalganj and Lahan incidents. The result of this is terai andolan. He is to be blamed for Rautahat and Kapilvastu killings due to lack of securities. He is the one who introducing ethnic war in Nepal. He will be the one who will surrender the country to India. So, Prachanda is produced by him and he is producing Goit, Jwala, Cobra, Mr. John and so many to see in his tenure.
Girija got the good slap from Bharati Janata Party. BJP told to this government to bring people mandate to make a historic decision. That is why Prachanda turned back to Refrendum. This Girija and goons will not go for CA election even in the republic set up. They want to rule this nation by crook and hook forever without election. But how long….?
Let me try and sum it up –
Instead of imagining endless conspiracies, if we look at it straight, its pretty clear.
Its true NC’s no.1 priority was to resurrect the party at any cost instead of solving the crisis that this nation entrusted them with. With their immense propaganda machine and control over influential levers in the society, they thought they could easily sideline Moaists and indeed did just that.
Other hand, Moaists with their raw, inexperienced politicking, easily played into the hands of NC. As they realised this more, they started taking even more desperate measures. They made themselves look utterly foolish and committed one political suicide after another. All this, because Girija failed to create an environment of trust in the interim period. Walking away from the govt was the last straw and perhaps Moaists’ best move.
Going on with the elections would have been disastrous and farcical, as it would be viewed as a compromise of some elite pahadis/bahunists only. It wouldnt solve ethnic/separatist issues which is the biggest danger in Nepal today. Republicaism is becoming more divisive besides being increasingly viewed as superficial – i.e. clearing the way for more power for these elite pahadis/bahunists.
Bottomline – (and this is getting old) its all about power. NC has proved it all these years. And even if Maoists come to power, their intolerance for opposition and obsession with violence and coercive methods will take the country backward on the path of democracy – which is again unacceptable.
From a 10,000 ft overview – lets face it – this is a crisis created by few elite caste/race in the greed for more power. Bahunist vs Shahs, Bahunist vs Bahunist, and Moaists exploited a problem that eventually turned out to be an all out war between Nepalese vs Nepalese. But guess what – it also exposed a lot of things – it exposed Royals, NC, Moaists, Bahunists, Indian/American design on Nepal, everything!!
And today when the country burns in ethnic violence, the leaders are more interested in how to share power amongst them(elite)selves. Nobody seems to have any roadmap for ethnic reconciliation. And if Maoists didnt have anything to gain from PR, it wouldnt be an issue for elections. Let the country burn who cares. But thank god – they have vested interests – and its the best we the people can do with, i.e. live a low life at the mercy of some ruling elite’s grand design and dictates.
Personal opinion – I think Maoists, with their vested interest, have the best strategy to solve this ethnic mess (ironically provoked by themselves, not necessarily created). Mixed voting system makes a lot of sense but leaves enough room for infiltration by the elites leaving nothing in the hands of marginalized. Fully proportional system has equal flaws – but atleast appeases most groups and can set in a process of reconciliation preventing the country from disintegration.
Ideally – I’d like to see NC with a strong ethnic reconciliation roadmap, but they dont have any. This is the only reason that makes me support Maoists move to quit govt. E
contd .. Else the elections would have been held only to removing monarchy. There would be nothing in it for the people. We’d be back to war.
Neil – since you get a lot of attention, I have something for you.
Incase you wondering why people here boo you – its either you blindly support Maoists which makes you biased or you actually trying to convey something rational – but fail to make the demarcation that it is not biased. Either way – ppl dont seem to be listening. If you have something to say – guess you have to come out and make it clear what you stand for.
The Maoists want a referendum on the Monarchy…what do you guys think?
It’s a democractic exercise. Why not? Let the people decide!
one thing was always certain but now has become clear to many people– the terrorists led by TTT Pushpa Kamal and Ceremonial Baburam are NOT to be trusted– the rest of corrupt SPA-M might agree to all of the 22 points raised by the terrorists but the dishonest terrorists will come up with another 44 point demand- it is simply not worth trying to keep the terrorists on-side for peace sake. Nepal has seen more destruction and deterioration in the past 14 months than it has in the past so called 238 years and with the efforts by $ hungry agencies like UNMIN crying out for peace sake” the country will further slip into anarchy and total destruction. For this it is absolutely necessary to sideline the terrorist and not give them an inch. People now need to come out to the streets and protest to demand for CA.. the terrorists can’t continue to keep this country hostage.
Maoists and referendrum?? Do you really believe them still, Kirat?? At least I don’t, they are just trying to find excuses to give some justification for the deferral of CA election which caused such outrage and distaste towards them. If they could accept referendum to decide the fate of Monarchy, they would have easily accepted the CA election in whatsoever manifestation .It’s crystal clear, that would be not only detrimental but also be suicidal for them and an olive branch for the dying monarchy.
I would have gone for referendum when UML proposed , monarchy was in it’s lowest ratings but situation changed because of these stupid, selfish and visionless a**holes now. The almost dead monarchy once again emerged as some kind of savior for this unfortunate country, and you can’t blame people, they have every right to swing their opinion. If referendum held in present context monarchy will even win more votes than all the SPA together. Will they commit suicide together with SPA, hmmm………………. very much unlikely!!
They also want referendum on PR to gauge peoples opinion. I think this is fair and the best way to thrown these 2 major things before the people. Politicians should not miss it. If they do, its official they are anti-people, anti-national.
