Prime Minister and acting head of state Girija Prasad Koirala quizzes the palace officials as to why Gyanendra, the suspended king, went to observe Kumari, the living Goddess, without government permission.
As the country is increasingly unsure about the fate of elections that are scheduled for 22 November because of the Maoist behavior, suspended king and former autocrat Gyanendra yesterday evening went to observe Kumari, the living Goddess, like a thief, without government permission. With the mandate of the April Revolution of 2006, the government has been curtailing the political and cultural rights and role of the king. The prime minister, in capacity as the acting head of state, has been performing the duties of the head of the state.

Following PM Koirala’s return after receiving blessings from Kumari in the capacity of head of state yesterday, the last day of Indra Jatra festival, King Gyanendra walked into the crowd at Basantapur and received tika from Shree Kumari, Shree Ganesh and Shree Bhairav. Gyanendra had reached Kumari Ghar at around 9:30 last night.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today quizzed the palace officials as to why King Gyanendra went to observe Kumari, the living Goddess, without government permission. According to media reports, PM Koirala rang palace principal secretary Pashupati Bhakta Maharjan this morning and asked about yesterday’s incident. PM Koirala has discussed the issue with Chief of the Army Staff Rukmangat Katuwal. It was reported that soldiers in plainclothes were mobilized to provide security to the suspended monarch. A spokesman of Nepali Army expressed his ignorance about such mobilization.
PM Koirala talked about the details during his meeting with former district presidents of the Nepali Congress who are dissatisfied over the Congress unification. “If the king is trying to challenge by walking into Kumari Ghar without government permission then I will also do the same (challenge),” Former Nepali Congress Sankhuwasabha district president Tara Man Gurung quoted PM Koirala as saying.
This visit has been interpreted by many as Gyanendra’s attempt to play games in muddy water while the country is trying to institutionalize the democratic achievements by exploiting the confusing situation created by the Maoists anti-election stand and their withdrawal from the government recently. Some also feel that the Maoists are deliberately trying to provide playing field to Gyanendra by walking away from elections.

I am always for Federal Democratic Republic where different ethnic groups have more say on government policy. When I wrote for 1 representative per 100,000 people I also mentioned that electoral ward should be by ethnicity rather than by geography.
Now, if I was given a choice only to choose between the dictatorship of Gyanendra, Girija or Prachanda I will choose Gyanendra. After all, when Gyanendra took power people welcomed it. Then He totally misused the trust given to Him by the people. He may have learned a lot lately just by reading this blog.

Let us remember what real chaos is, people being tortured and executed by the king. Party leaders jailed just for not knealing to his minority support. A king willing to ally to any dictatoral power, even China, Old women shot in the street in protests against the king.
I think the assembly will abolish monarchy soon, and the army must not interfere in the democratic decsion of the Nepali people. They are there to Nepal’s bidding not the other way around.

I used to watch each n almost all the political interviews in different channels n my mind just frustrated at the political leaders’ power games. They change their words so frequently that i doubt if they had any morality! They have no vision my fren. This is the conclusion of my so long devoted time to their interviews. Really! How often do u watch the political interviews?? The situation of the country was so poor when the king took the power. As ‘what the Heck’ said He took the country in his powers when people felt hopeless. I think he is true.
How do u believe in those why grew the dirty politics culture in our heaven like country?? I am amazed. And what is the country’s situation today? I’m quite aware of the current situation or the political climate of Nepal but its still very confusing when ruling class(government) keep contradicting the stance on royalty. The government insists on having equality but one has to look at the prevailing situation on the ground and be realistic. Ask yourself this question, will the bahuns(girija .prachanda,madhave,babu ram)eat food or drink water touched by the untouchables(dalits)? Society changes when citizens of the country are willing to change, until then we are always going to be unequal in many ways. The king of Nepal has always been some sort of stability for Nepal. The royalty actually holds the country together. Regardless, of the the present day government, irrespective of political belief, i believe the king or the queen should reign supreme. There should be a system based on United Kingdom or Malaysia which practices constitutional monarchy. Basically the monarchy would have some influence on the government such as disolving the parliament and giving consent to the prime minister.(Like a vote of confidenc) I find this way more effective because there will be check and balances. The royals of Nepal should always be above politics.

I seriously dont get it why people have issues with Gyan dai or the entire thing about having him as a king. How does taking him out and turning the country to a republic make things better? There are still countries out there ( esp in europe ), who do have monarchy and yet the country is still functioning as a democracy. Problem with Nepal and Nepali people is not the system but people running the system. All Nepali people are good at is bitching about a problem rather then finding a solution. These so called politicans who have never seen anything in the life are the problem. Ask any of them, what their plans are for the development of the country they will have no answers for it, cause hey they are just fighting around like stray dogs for a piece of meat.
I have no issues with Gyan dai, and he should be there just as a figure head, he can be used as an icon to promote/bargain anything. 😉

I totally agree with you. Its high time that we nepalese that believe in constitutional monarchy should get united and act fast. we need to teach this bloody leaders a lesson……….a good lession!!!!!…….. we all need to get united first.
