[6:25PM] The massive rally at Teku bridge were dispersed by police with more than a dozen rounds of tear-gas shells. The rally that began at Gongabu collected people on its way to Kalanki to Balkhu to Sanepa before it attempted to envade the restricted area throuhg Teku Bridge at Pachali.

The demonstrators nearly broke the shield of hundreds of policemen stationed at the bridge but the police used tear-gas to disperse them. A few of the rallyist however moved to Teku road and gathered there chanting slogans. They turned to Kalimati after large number of police arrived there.

There were more than 20,000 demonstrators in the rally. Even the hundreds of Armed Police Force (APF) at Kalanki couldn’t stop them and just ensured that they don’t enter the city area leaving the Ring Road and let it move towards Balkhu.

[3:25PM] Traffic in Koteshwor and Baneshwor area is almost non-existent.

Rally at Kaushaltar resumed at 11:00 AM and the demonstrators rallied the Kaushaltar, Ghatthaghar, Thimi and Lokanthali area. A lot of women pariticipated in the rally at around 12:00 noon. The demonstrators are either rallying or sitting on the road.

At 8:00AM in Kalanki, a massive crowd gathered to listen student leader Gagan Thapa’s speech. He said during ongoing movement, Kalanki’s people had participated overwhelmingly. He thanked them and asked them to take their spirit to the core of the city.

[10:40AM] A rally of Seven Party Alliance (SPA) closed down the Arniko Highway at Kaushaltar area. The rally participated by around 1000 demonstrators rallied from Kaushaltar to Thimi and back to Lokanthali was closely watched and followed by hundreds of policemen but didn’t intervene.

Bhaktapur is closed also because of the Bisket Festival which is one of the biggest festivals in Thimi and Bhaktapur. The rally has now ended but it’s scheduled to resume at 11:00AM.

At Patan and Kathmandu, the number of public vehicles on road is almost nil whereas a few motorbikes and private vehicles are plying on the road. The traffic on Saturdays is usually less.

The demonstrators had done some vandalizing works in the Chakrapath area, including Gongabu, last night but no details are available.

This unproductive mass gathering will just hamper the day-to-day life of the common publics and that dont affect the corrupt politicians and their puppets. Well it is clear that these all are goin on is just for their interest. Most of the people seen in the demonstration even dont know what are they doing. So people wake up and realise the dark side of moon.

person who needs to be awaken is saying other people who have already awaken…hello freenhigh…it’s true that people are affected due to the mass demonstrations since few days…but if this KG regime continues, then it will hamper our whole life…so the choice is yours, either u want to be affected for some days or for ur life…so wake up man.

regarding the corruption, this KG is far more corrupt than the politicians…he has already mishandled 50 billion (arba) rupees in the last 4 years, which is half the yearly budget of the country…have a look on the link above.

DEAR ALL XPLAINING MAOIST STRATEGY: IT’S ALL IN THE SCRIPT
    By Dr. Thomas A. Marks

Even as I write, events in Nepal unfold as if a Broadway play – nary a miscue from the script passed out months ago in the Nepalese media.

Having declared a “ceasefire inside the Kathmandu Valley,” thus to gain the media “spin” that would necessarily come from “peaceful protestors” being “attacked,” the Maoists proceeded elsewhere in the country to attack positions. The Butwal attack is only the most recent example.

Open use of violence “outside” the urban centers has been accompanied by orchestrated rioting “inside.” That the foreign media (with the help of the anti-government sectors in the Nepali media) persist in calling such “peaceful protest” only demonstrates how thoroughly detached they are from the reality of the people’s war approach.

    From the Maoist Playbook

To outline the Maoist strategy for those who were not present at the auditions for parts:

    ● Overload the security forces “inside” while attacking with main forces “outside.” Claim to be only supporting “peaceful” forces for change.

    ● Use government troop deployments to advantage. If the security forces must move more men inside, flow into the vacuums left behind. If they move outside, send urban partisans inside.

    ● Exploit every death and claim that any setback (e.g. failure to overthrow the government) proves that only the violent way is left to install “absolute democracy.”

    ● Break the RNA at all costs. RNA is the one real obstacle remaining in the quest for power. So caught up is the SPA in its short-term effort to remain relevant that it is oblivious to long-term peril. SPA can be counted upon to mindlessly perform on cue.

    ● Move now to exploit the opening provided by Indian perfidy. New Delhi senses an opportunity to at long last create of Nepal a dependency that will do as it is told.

From the Maoist perspective, they have adopted a “win/win” course of action: no matter what actually happens, they will benefit.

By declaring a “ceasefire outside Kathmandu Valley,” they seal off the battle area, declaring that it will be a fight between rival bodies of manpower. They feel that the SPA manpower on the streets can overwhelm whatever the police and APF (the backup) can put on the playing field.

When the authorities make mistakes, which ultimately they must if SPAM plans go off as scripted, the government is again “human rights abusers” — and the howls can already be heard from the usual suspects. Some elements of the Nepali media appear to be working deliberately to fan the anti-government flames.

Further, the violence allows the Maoists to claim they at least gave “peace” a chance.

The dream scenario, from the SPAM perspective, is to replay 1990, with masses rushing across the open boulevard leading to the main palace gate, the troops forced to open fire, bodies filmed by international media and beamed worldwide, India declaring it can no longer stand by “as democracy is crushed.”

    Role of India

India’s role remains to be untangled, but no one who was in Sri Lanka in July 1987 – as I was – can overlook the startling similarities. The Indian invasion, conveniently disguised as the IPKF (Indian Peace Keeping Force), was but the culmination of half a decade of support for Tamil insurgents/terrorists that New Delhi thought it could “manage.”

Then, as now, the shape of the international arena played a significant role. India, many have forgotten, had sided with the Evil Empire. There were some 6-7,000 Soviet advisors in the country. It was the first country outside the Warsaw Pact to receive the MIG-29 fighter, the first (and only) ever to be rented a nuclear submarine.

Beyond all else, in a relationship only now emerging from files of the KGB spirited out of the country prior to the resumption of the authoritarianism, the government of Indira Gandhi allowed itself to be fed Soviet disinformation that convinced it Sri Lanka was a threat.

Alleged “special intelligence” provided by Moscow purported to prove Colombo was on the verge of granting Washington basing and spying facilities, India became involved with the Tamil insurgents, eventually training, arming, and basing them. When an initial massing of forces to invade in early 1984 was warned off by the Reagan administration, Delhi simply waited for a more propitious moment. This came in July 1987, as the Sri Lankans moved to crush the trapped insurgents in Jaffna.

What that moment shares with the present is the astonishingly bad “intelligence” that drove Indian policymaking, as well as the claim that “foreign hands” support the monarch. Putting the word in quotation marks only highlights what Indian field commanders realized within days of landing in Jaffna – there was little they had been given in their briefing packets that was accurate.

That India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) had produced “analysis” every bit as flawed as any in the annals of intelligence debacles has since been recognized by no less than India’s imperious Proconsul at the time, J.N. Dixit (now deceased) – though he continued to claim, even in his last writings, that India’s information on America’s intentions was completely reliable.

That India had completely botched its assessments of Sri Lankan ground realities would not surprise anyone who has followed what has emerged as the dominant government position in the present Nepali crisis. Indeed, Indian participants in panels held in Washington, DC, such as S.D. Muni, have distinguished themselves principally in what can only be characterized as willful ignorance of SPAM pronouncements and motives.

To cite but the most egregious example, the Indians continue to claim SPAM is willing to negotiate for itself a role in a parliamentary framework headed by a constitutional monarchy, even as the Maoists give press conferences claiming they will try the monarch in a people’s court.

There do seem to be analysts who have correctly identified the astonishingly strategic myopia involved in destabilizing Nepal further even as India itself grapples with its own growing Maoist challenge. In his recent “India, Maoism and Nepal,” former Finance Minister Madhukar S.J.B. Rana hit the nail squarely on the head when he wrote, “India is playing a dangerous game of pure real politic where it seeks to intervene in Nepal militarily by using the Maoist [as published] as proxy under the unbelievable propaganda ‘to secure peace and democracy for the Nepalese people and to arrest the impending refugee inflow into its own territory’.”

Change a word here and there, and the logic is identical to the debacle that became IPKF. It is further noteworthy that in the three bloody years that followed July 1987, IPKF acquitted itself well in “India’s Vietnam” (as it was called by the press), even as Indian policymakers sought to cast blame for the blunder on anyone and everyone except themselves. (The most ludicrous position, of course, was the very one the Maoists advance now: it is all the fault of American imperialism.)

    Where to From Here?

As irony would have it, it is the growing amicability of India and the US which has served as the strategic cover for New Delhi to bring Kathmandu to heel. Nepali sources have become increasingly blunt (and strident) in the same manner as the Sri Lankans all those years ago, as the Indian ties to Nepali violence become more clear.

One does not have to engage in plot mongering to posit that India is making a major policy error in steering its present course. Neither does one have to cast aspersions to point out the obvious: the SPA portion of SPAM has been willing to play the quisling for momentary political gain.

For it will be momentary, come what may. Let us suppose that the present government collapsed tomorrow. Where would that leave SPA? With two useless pieces of paper and a worthless sheath of promises.

What is tragic is that very little would seem to separate the sides at the moment save profound mistrust. The king agrees that parliamentary democracy should be restored with a constitutional monarch. The Maoists claim they will accept a democratic republic of whatever sort is decided by a constitutional convention. SPA claims the same. SPAM as a whole claims to desire a “ceremonial monarch” (but the “M” has been unwilling to desist from claiming a trial or exile is the only way out for the present monarch). RNA would become a true “national” army, which, not surprisingly, it already thinks it is.

It is important to interject RNA into the discussion, because the shape of any successor organization was a major sticking point in the previous 2003 round of ceasefire talks. SPAM seems to think this institution will simply agree to dissolve itself without discussions of what this entails.

That this will not happen was put to the Maoists directly in 2003, but they were as unwilling then to grapple with the complexities thus raised as they appear to be now. Yet the growing stratum of combat-tested, politically astute officers is not simply going to go as lambs to the slaughter.

Thus a great deal more thought is required upon the part of all sides. This will not take place as long as SPAM persists in its present course.

Hope, indeed you are not the “alu” typo. It seems you and Sulav or some of your father/ mother, forefathers/mothers have been heavily benefitted out of the current regime or remained very important parts of the feudalism. This is the reason you both become untolerable to the present andolan of commons.

The lok/gantranta has been proven to the best system for overall progress, prosperity and peace so far known in many countries. Where, if you wish, you and yours generation will have right to reach the highest post of the nation you represent. However, the current feudalism has capacity to generate only slaves not the innovative people. It does not mean that every your wish will be fulfilled so quickly, remember ‘Rome is not built in single day’.

It is good that you have good memories of past misdeeds of the leaders. And believe very firmly, it is the only you who has the right to punish those corrupts. Contrastingly, the situation has been overpowered by snatching your right by the autocratic king. Thus, the present andolan wants to return your right to punish the corrupts by you, but not by the King. If you have capacity to understand this simple equlibrium, then by next moment you would be the part of the lok/gantantric andolan.

Wishing you all the best, and hoping that you would at least not object the andolan for the betterment of your fellow countrymen and generation.

i have posted the same material in another blog. which I will be posting over and over again..if you dont show any sign of coming up with new thinks and new ideas…here it is..dont make me repeat the same thing again and again….

for those who hates the movement for democracy just because of girija and political leaders..

the literal meaning of Monarch is rule by king…democracy implies..rule by people..Girija is just a part of democracy just like you and me..i see myself every possibility to replace Girija in the foceeable future..but I can not be a king of nepal thousands time I reborn…so you see the beauty of democracy..

So guys..you see my point..lets argue..monarch against democracy….not king against Girija..maoist republic against multiparty republic..not prachanda against makune..

lets discuss ..who is the good leader and bad leader..Girija againast narahari acharya, deuba against pradip Giri..

I dont see any point discussing king (institution) agaist other political leaders (Individuals). Even if you insist in bringing Girija into the discussion against king..i say..Girija is thousand times better than King ..boyee..Nothing has been proved againast Girija even by akthiyar or by adalat..lets make king and his evil son face the justice..I am sure it will take no time to hang them till death.

but I again plead you guys ..discussing Girija against king is an insult of yourselves..Girija is not the synonym of democracy..democracy is all about you and me..about our right to fight..right to freedom..right to select our representatives and right to form our governement…

i hope this helps..please dont bring girija back to the discussion just to insult you..you can insult girija but dont insult me, you and others.

Why is it better if the King misuses the public’s funds? I really don’t understand that … please tell me. Is it because he is Lord Vishnu and the Lord may do as he pleases?
Hey maybe I am not so hot on Nepali history but please kindly explain to me how it was that the Shah kings freed us from the Ranas?
Hey a simple google search will answer that question READ CAREFULLY:

The “freedom fighters” of Nepal fought the Ranas, setting up bases in the Terai. As their was no decisive victor, India presided over a compromise. The King returned from India and soon thereafter, the Ranas went to live in India.

Please give me something better. The King is as bad and as currupt as the political leaders and his ability to run the Country is just as poor if not worse! Show me ONE just ONE improvement since the King took over.

The King is the representitive of a very dark age. He may not personally be responsible for all the atrocities but his recent actions only suggest that he wants to take Nepal back to those dark ages and resume the autrocities where his anscestors left off.

If you say why should we blame this king since he is not responsible for the actions of his ancestors then why should be blame future leaders and a democratic system for the actions of a few individuals in the past??

    I suggest that you guys (Aalupande & Sulav), Kamal Thapa, Bharat Kesar Simba and some other Royal Chamchas borad an RNAC plane and go somewhere like Afghanistan and negotitate with a lord so that you can form your own little mini Kingdom.

…. There you maybe even construct a massive temple (after getting permission from the Islamic police of course) for him and worship him every morning with the most elaborate of poojas.

What makes you think we are royal chamchas. I just believe that democracy is not achieved in the hands of these politicians. If people like you would step up then sure who would not want democracy. I am not saying corruption should not be abolished, even the biggest democratic nation like India has problem of corruption. And what dark ages are you talking about, try living in Iraq or Afghanistan.

What makes me think you guys are Royal chamchas? I guess your previous posts where you are defending the royal move/regime left and right.

Listen I don’t like these politicans either. It is an undesputible fact that the CURRENT politicans are just PRASITES of the worst kind. But you my friend DON’T GET THE POINT! Read Bravo’s post… we aren’t supporting this batch of political leaders we are supporting a SYSTEM.
A system that can bring better and new leaders, transparency, good goverance etc. WHY DO PEOPLE NOT GET THAT??? It amazes me how short-sighted people can be.

The ‘King’ freed Nepal from the Ranas? They’re one and the same. They marry each other and its the Ranas in the military who’ve been the biggest supporters of the Shahs.

Even today, you’ve got Sachit, Shirish and all these guys virtually proclaiming that the ‘King’ is Lord Vishnu. Get over it. The Ranas and the Shahs are one inseparable mess. We should rid ourselves of both of them.

I can see some idiots in this blog who are against this popular movement. Why do you guys underestimate the people’s voice? Thousands of people are pouring from nearby areas in the cities to protest against this regime. Do you support this king? Are you against those masses who are demanding peace and restoration of democracy? Why you guys get mad with them? Do you believe in autocracy? What your king gave in last five years? An unstable nation, which is in the verge of collapse. The whole nation is burning, but this “Niro” is pretending of listening nothing. His son is worst than this king. Can you imagine what will be the situation of Nepal if this bastard becomes king?

Remember, every nation has bitter past. There were civil wars in each country where there is peace now. The popular movement is needed to sweep to autocratic monarch.

    Avaya:
The idiots you speak of are not supporting the mass movement because they don’t want to support currupt politicans. Unfortunetly for the few that are not in support of the democratic movement this is extreamly short-sighted and foolish. At the point I think the movement for democracy has reached a stage where their opinion does not matter or will it make any difference. The civil society, civil servants, profesionals etc. have all come abroad and there is little anyone can do to stop the jaan andolan.

Sulav, have you ever taken history lessons? The kings were locked inside the palace as puppets by their own Ranas, their mamas. Tribhuwan was secretly led to the Indian Embassy, then flown to India by the parties fighting for democracy – specially the Nepali Congress. Tribhuwan himself had no hand in the abolishment of rana regime, and he probably did not even have single idea what was going on in Nepal – outside the prison (palace) he was in. While Tribhuwan was away, Ranas crowned his grandson – Gyanendra – as the new king. But after Rana regime was overthrown by PEOPLE’s movement – Tribhuwan got his crown back. Since that very day, Gyanendra has been waiting for the day when he’d be wearing the crown once again, the crown bestowed on him by his mamas. He’s still Mama’s bhanja – working closely with people like Sutchit Shumshere and Sirish Sumshere.

Get your history right Sulav before you say anything else.
