Maoists put together stones near a bridge at Dulegauda-3, Haledi of the Prithvi Highway. The rebels have done the same at various places of the highway as part of their campaign to halt traffic in the highway. They also blasted a bomb off over the bridge. Chitta Bahadur Thapa, 42, of Tanahun District’s Ghashikuwa-9, Tamung lost his left leg when Maoists took physical action against him six years ago. Thapa used to survive money earned via daily labor. He hasn’t been able to pay back the loan he took for the treatment. In addition to that, his family has been suffering as Tamang, the head of the house, remains jobless. Pic by Ghanashyam Khadka

Sushila Sharma, right, is being consoled by her sister. Sushila lost consciousness hearing the news the death of her husband, 50-year-old Sahadev Sharma, in an indiscriminate Wednesday firing by police upon a crowd that was peacefully celebrating Holi, the festival of color and water. Plainclothes policemen opened fire without giving prior notice. The incident took place near Hanumab Temple, east of Tribenimode at Nepalgunj-4. Sahadev, principal of a local school and priest of the temple, sustained injury on the chest. He died while being taken to Bheri Zonal Hospital. Pic by Janak Nepal
