This is not a strange thing. Many kings, presidents, prime ministers of the world hold their businesses alongside their political life. Sultan of Brunei, Prime Ministers of Thailand and Italy, Queen Elizabeth, President of Poland are few examples. However, they have to pay taxes on their incomes.
yah exactly,
monks right..
UWB has just one mission: to defame the king somehow .. infact anyhow..
btw UWB has stopped righting the name of the person who writes those shit articles..
i think wagle has been embarassed by the 3rd degree journalism he does..so he stopped putting his name here.. 🙂
raja le tax tirdaina thiyo..aba tircha..so whats the big deal ???
The distorted facts and figures- now lets turn the radar against people like Bam Dev Gautam, Sujata and whole cadres of political spectrum. Lets not forget Maoist leaders as well along with Media houses moguls who are spoon fed by the powers-that-be across the borders.
Lets also investigate Pahadi, Pandey and Dixit -Civil society (left)- who are renowned for being dollar farmers. I say when you start. lets start all down the line as well.
The King is rich enough. This is one more reason to throw him away.
Dear gentleman,
if the wagles (khursani mahila and brothers can hold abundant property why no gyanendra? If the Koiralas ( the father and the notorous daughter and the koirala family can loot the country whats wrong if Gyanendra did it under the law when he was the prince? If you think an Industrialist like Gyanendra could not hold property could you give an account of the property of Chaudhary family,Khetan family,Golchha family, and Ravi Bhakta family,Kantipur family, Wagle family including you ! and many more neo marwadis who were chappal chhaps till yesterday ! Are’nt you exagerating and misleading Nepalese people ?
u dont “throw” away someone because he is rich santosh..
i think u are jealous of him cause u dont have that much wealth.. if u were in his shoes.. too then i guess u will not be writing such things
Look the point is, it is not because we do not have poor leaders and kings that our country is going down the drain. I agree with Monk and sansar, let us not loose perspective here. I am sure if we look into the finances of people like gachhadar and co, we will be even more surprised. The fact that the king has invested in so many companies proves that he is also aiding employment of the nation
The only concern should be if he earned the money invested legally or not. I mean illegaly like so many of the politicians.
First, I think all these shares are transferred into the names of kith and kin. Is it legal? I think it is.
If there is a law that says royal family cannot own shares in businesses please show it. Or is this also in the agenda of the maobadi constitution to readdress?
Another thing regarding property is that, I believe the King was legally allowed to hold property in that extent in our previous constitution. Correct me if I am wrong. So who gives these partliamentary pretenders the right to nationalise the royal property at a drop of a hat? Granted, maybe the King should redistribute his land or put it to good use, and maybe there should be new laws governing royal property, but you have to also give the King time to adjust to these changes.
Tommorrow, if the people vote for a republic, then if the King own billions of shares, why would that be a problem? I believe he pays taxes in all his business holdings. How many businessmen can claim that?
If we are going to witch hunt, let us go the entire way. Why stop at the King? I want to know the shares, property etc. in and out of Nepal of not only the political leaders but also their kith and kin and their close associates. Can anyone attempt this?
I think the King has correctly transferred all his shares to his family members other than the Crown Prince. This was the correct and legal thing to do and he has done it. He could also have done nothing.
I can’t understand why Prabhakar Rana’s business holdings has to do with that of the King? Prabhakar Rana worked for the King in the early days, but this shrewd businessman has gone well past anyones standrads and can hold is own. They may have companies where they are common shareholders, but there are others which are independent of each other.
The bottom line is – Is it legal? If it is, then I think the parliament should face serious accusations for trying to drag this on too far. I suggest a look into all the parliamentarians wealth as well including their near and dear ones. I’m sure it ain’t a pretty picture. Start with the tax returns. How many do you think have payed all their taxes? Oh yes, let’s not forget the leadership of our maoists brothers and sisters? Is extortion legal these days?
Time to start adressing the crying issues – arms, economics, governance. I think this sidelining of major issues by having a field day on Gyanendra has gone way past it’s sell by date. Even I am getting tired of this fiasco.
By the way- it shows that Prince before he was King had faith in Nepal and invested here which generated employment, foreign investment, and showed nationalism by keeping the money and investment in Nepal unlike our get-quick-rich leaders who laundered money to countries like US and Malaysia in Gas stations & hotels in US,Malaysia and some other countries.
The truth will bear out sooner or later and people who are sleazily pointing figures based on vendetta and overt attempt to malign for political gain will be the naked and mighty dirty in the end. Not that it not is obvious to people now.
Since things seem to be written just for the hell of it. Let me telly you about the penthouse apartment of Sujata Koirala in New York City, – it’s worth USD 5 million. It’s bought by illegal money. This is just the tip of the tip of the iceberg. Now let’s go over to Prachanda – extortion by his cadres have reached arabs over the years. More than all the money owed by bank defaulters. One rag tag looking cadre in charge of the Bhaktapur area had 2 crores stashed under his mattress. Imagine how much Prachanda with his fancy watch has? These guys have property all over India. Let’s not even go into the 500 bighas of land Jha;anath Khanal has, must have by now transferred it hear and there, and Bam Dev it is half jokingly said owns half of New Jersey!!!!
this site is infested with hard core royalists –
Its not about king. Its about what means were employed to earn and how much political power has been abused by king, congress, uml or any govt for that matter. Now the question is of knowing how much money has been siffoned off to off-shore accounts. Remember the dealer of Ford motors in Nepal who got chased away by Royal family members just because he was earning. Look at the list of major businesses in Nepal and you will quickly realize how the regimes practised unfair competition by favoring henchmen. This should not go unpunished.
I think the game has come full circle.
Most people in this blog have become disillusioned with the fact that making the king a scapegoat at all times is ridiculous and it could be a game-plan of the jungle-people.
We know the king had been inept with wrong decisions and poor leadership and when the andolan happened it was natural that the king became ridiculed and name-called.
But in fact the root cause of king-cursing may be rooted in unemployment, poverty, lack of education and again a game-plan of the jungle-people.
So if there is to be a witch-hunt, let’s start with the big businesses, major poiticians, and major ingo/ngo people as mentioned somewhere in this blog.
It has become very easy for people like santosh and Mr. wagle to call everyone who do not agree with their point of view, a royalist. Then they do not have to argue anymore. They can keep being stupid and still feel proud about it because at least they are not royalist. However, the fact is, they are stupid. What is right will remain right and wrong will remain wrong. None of us here are suggesting that king should be forgiven if he has done something wrong. However, a proper procedure should be followed. Everyone should be brought to justice without any prejudice. That is all we are saying. Yes, if our king has earned it illegaly then he should be punished but so should all the politicians who have stashed billions of our (nepali people) hard earned money in foreign countries. Is it wrong for us to ask for an investigation into the accounts of our money? Why are we being labeled royalists every timewe criticize the politicians? My only conclusion is that these guys are simply brick headed and no sense can ever be transfered into their brains
Labeling people is an easy way out. Learn to look hard and out of the box. We are Nepali and thats the way it should be rather than be something which we are not and cannot be. By imposing ideals and visions by force, coercion and by abetting with dollars & IC will only go far. My point is, if we are decendant of great warriors and forefathers then lets have guts to define our future by ourselves not by mob rule, gun rule or out and out clueless SPA compounded by foreign forces.
Why is it right for us to accept nexus made in India or ideals espoused by barrel of a gun all in people’s name. This all boils down to defeatism on all fronts. We whine and all but no action- so rather being a refuge in our own land, best course of action is to stand up for the right. Call me anything you want, I know where I stand.
forget this B..first of all i want UWB and kantipur to find out who was that politican who had asked Maoists to undertake the Thankot attack..and kill those innocent policemen..
but then kantipur wont do that i know..
how can they bite the same hand who feeds them
king gyanendra b4 being a king was nepals top level businessman . so there is nothing to be surprised of him having such asset. He has suffered a lot in is business after being a king as he cannot directly deal with a lot of business deal himself he has to trust his partners for that . he has lost many more properties yet to be in the list if you really can pls publish me gyanendras asset b4 being a king+royal asset at that time & compare with this new list. THAT WILL BE COMPARABLE. I am sure after being a king gyanenra has lost quiet a lot of asset. why people talk about gain only there is loss also
I have no qualms of being labelled a royalist. But, first I am a Nepali and a patriot. There are many hard core pseudo-intellectual type wannabe maoists here, flouting for an imported Western concept adapted frightfully and disastrously by China and now attempted here, and if followed will end in a matter of months not years even but with catestrophic results and probably put an end to our Nation. For people who have failed to realise this and are caught up in this wild goose populist chase without aknowledging the tsunami underneath the surface I feel nothing for, as it will be these same buggers with no pride who will also suffer the most – they have nothing they believe in and nothing to fight for but empty dreams and silly outdated notions discarded by the world multiple times over. Unfortunately, this sort of principles can be changed and moulded by any new pretender who believes he has quick fix answers to our nations woes, as for me I will go the distance come hell or high water till the masses realise that I atleast had a valid point – a point called the truth.
I bet King and Katuwal has employed some Mandales to surf the blogs whole time and try to protect them both. CK2,Scoop, kp,B, nep etc are employed by them. So their job is to deny every thing of the King nad katuawal and Paras. One day they will say that Paras was Ram Bhakta and he did not kill Prabin Gurung. He did not go to disco and did not shoot. They are saying that King should be allowed to loot the country and amass the money in swiss and luxembourg acconts. These people I cited are antinationalist and ass lickers of the King. i am with you Sansar and Santosh. I am with you guys. Gynenedra should be hanged immediately.
Amazing comments!
Looks like greed is universal.
All commenters seem to forget, that this wealth is a result of slavery, so it can by no means be legal. The recent public records are just mentioning the royal wealth in Nepal, but who can really be so foolish to believe, that the Nepali royals have no foreign investment, no Switzerland bank account.
So dear defenders of the ‘legal’ royal wealth, accept that all of you have been kept under some form of tyranny since hundreds of years to make these few families super-rich. It is time to bring this back into balance now.
Let us begin from top. The politicians have of course followed the bad examples given from above and fell prey to foreign bribers too, but they were simply misguided and should be pardonned if they confess and give back their illegal wealth.
But amassing wealth, generated as a profit from autocratic monarchy, a system increasing the wealth of few and throwing into misery the masses, such systematic plundering cannot be pardonned, specially if run as offensively as from the still ‘king’ of Nepal.
The Shahs’ and Ranas’ wealth is in fact lost development of Nepal, similar to the current costs of the oversized military with perhaps up to 150.000 soldiers on the payrolls of both sides.
Nepal should take the chance now to finally get rid of monarchy and scrap the military to a ceremonial minimum, to effectively free budget to (re)build lasting infrastructures, benefitting the whole of Nepal.
AHIMSA says :
Demilitarize Nepal completely now!
Establish a zone of nature, peace and religion!
For a Federal Republic of Nepal!
I bet King and Katuwal has employed some Mandales to surf the blogs whole time and try to protect them both. CK2,Scoop, kp,B, nep etc are employed by them. Good reporting. But we need to find out property details of our politicians too.
“but they were simply misguided and should be pardonned if they confess and give back their illegal wealth”
i think this guys stays in PLUTO not even the moon ..
“scrap the military to a ceremonial minimum”
and whos gona defend the country against tyrants like prachanda and company ? already the RNA is facing some humilating setbacks because the politicians are allowing prachanda to accuse the army in all forms but if the NA replies then its not the proper way and the army should let the politicians speak for them re…
well mr.home minister..when u are so busy being the chauffeur of prachandra and saying yes boss to all his wishes…then how can u be free to defend the army …
“build lasting infrastructures”
sorry mate..we HAD infrastructures but your friend maoists blew them up..
vayeko repeater station ra telephone tower pani udai sakee…aba kina naya banaune.. 🙂
Every Nepali knows that Gyanendra owns share in some of the so-called businesses. Pity on the attitude of the propagandists who keep their eyes blind folded on the property of Wagles, Koiralas, and the Bandit Queen. I am rather surprised why you never question about the property of the so called samprabhus who were Chappal Chhap till few years back. May I remind you of some famous names : Vijay Gashed, Mahesh Zachary, Ram Saran Mehta, Gavin Raja Joshi, Sheer Abrader Deuba,Prakash Man Singh, Laxman Ghimire, Bam Dev Gautam, Jhala Nath Khanal, the famous Lauda Hero, Bhim Rawal and uncountable many more. Why , any way you ignore Chaudhary family, Khetan family, Dugar family, Golchha Family, Rabi Bhakta family, and many Newar Business Gharanas as Piush Bahadur Amatya, Narendra Bajracharya and many Kathmanduites. I should realize that heavy kickbacks keeps the mouth and mind shut. This should be the reality ! May Lord Pasupati protect the ethics of the democratic inteligentia!
Well the king is a gonner that’s for sure! Good riddance. Now why doesn’t somebody report on the ill gotten wealth of the SPA leaders? We all know how corrupt Koirala, Deuba, Makune and the lot are… so why doesn’t a newspaper do a proper investigative report on these guys? Also from what I hear these Maoists leaders don’t seem to be exactly living in poverty like their cadres. Why not report on their non-communist lifestyle? Especially the way a lot of their kids seem to be studying in very expensive schools abroad? Are the ‘donations’ going there too?
Poor Gyanendra! he has just this. We needed to let him earn more in spite of doing janaandolan. He wanted to earn a lot more than this. Why these people are jeleous!!! Cann’t you let him do what ever he wants? Yes, I see some sympethiser in this blog. Just that much land and that many companies? Bichara!! I hope visiters of this blog have a little sympathy towards to homeless people too, but I am not sure.
We also have to investigate why the company are failure such like Soaltee hotel ? I think many people have some share on this hotel and they have never distributed a single penny for the share holder because of a lot of expenditure on gyane and prabhakar s.j.b.r.
They are making investor fool and i am among them. Actually we should investigate on all issues for instance their investment in foreign accounts. May be they are trying to transfer thier wealth to foreign account. I am sure there will be no space for monarchy in future but i am worrying about terrorist too. They compelled people to whatever they like to do. They have not stop to turture, abuduct and blame so called “suraki”, etc.
May be one day will come to fight every people against these terrorist. I am wondering and so frighten on imagining such a situation, it will be even worse then Rwanda, Ethopia.
CK2- well put. All I can add is people (pseudo kind) here in Nepal believe and have grandiose notion about themselves and ideas they part as being righteous and true picture of Nepal but in reality, its does not have an iota of truth or rationality. So all the pretenders walk on clouds assuming if they cry little harder, it will turn into reality. So pretentious are these bunch that fate of a nation is now bellowing in the clouds rather on firm in the ground.
Kathe tendency has overrun the sensibility of Nepal at the present.
Funny ideas here and there. King’s money is legal because Sujata or so gained money too. Some one may say – king should rule us because Girija rules us. Can’t you bring some wiser and logical defence if you have to defend?
ck2 and diehard don’t bullsh*t us. You guys are first royalists before anything else. You don’t care about Nepal but presevering the lifestyle that you are used to. That much is very clear.
Yeah, Kirat we will go out of our way to protect what we believe in and our way of life and belief. I ain’t chickenshit like you or someone who thinks he can talk chicken right out of the bone with clueless, false, and pretentious rhetoric. I am not the kind that buys into anything that is flavor of the month or rule by the mob in the pretext of speaking for the people. To gloss over the obvious facts of misadventure of SPA and to patina the brutality of Maoist with terms like ” not terrorist” is beyond my comprehension. Yes, call me anything you want, it won’t stick but it shows where you coming from, gutter. By the way are you Maoist or just an opportunist sitting on the fence for time to arrive to jump the boat.
Now the question of logical defense- all we want is same yardstick for everyone. If culpable then punishment but with due process and right to defense substantiated by solid proof, not heresy nor for political mileage as is the case now. The burden of proof is upon SPAs to prove their worth and credibility by declaring assets, income and investments as well as bring to book all the past actors who raped the nation’s coffer, left and right.
AHIMSA, we really need to rid of people like you.
I agree the SPA’s pathetic way of diverting attention from thier incompentancies is to go after the Gyanendra. I agree that his holdings should become public but it seems as if the SPA(M) have nothing better to do then investigate the King’s holdings. Like Kirat mentioned all our political leaders are currupt. Hell just about every civil servant is currupt, the police the army etc. That’s no news to me.
People should focus their attention on these Maoist militias who are terrorizing businesses and making it impossible for the economy to function. Hey at least the private enterprises exist for the King to have holdings. If we keep diverting all our attention and energy towards investigating G and leaving the Maoist goons, we might not even have private enterprises.
Fcuk you Wagle and your moderation policy. I have this urge to punch you in the face. I probably will if I ever see you.
and i feel like punching this wise a$$ kirat
he got a ego bigger than darrel hair
Moderate for all I care. Such a bunch lunatic fringes.Them mothers think, my way or no way and we are supposed to believe they carry the torch of Democracy. Kathe haro lai ke tah!!
There is a rumor going around that in about week or two Maoist are going to call off truce. Dunno in real but its making around.
harkee keep your punch to yourself. Easily done in cyberspace then in person.
Hey Bhudai, don’t let Wagle’s moderation get to you. How are you keeping old friend? It’s a bit confusing here in Nepal but still most of us are still quite optimistic that it will all work out well. We’re hoping!
maos are waiting for their big october revolution.. mark my words…
right now they are keepin quiet cause they are preparing for the big show ..and come october..all hell will break loose..the maoists gona say we are not satisfied with anything this crap government is doing..no more CA..no more referendum in the monarchy issue.. we gona rule…
thats it folks..no more contemplating now..everyone can go home and sleep ..
peace is never going to come in nepal and no system gona work whoever comes….
for eg..hijo ko .. student of TU vs teachers..
teacher ko haadtaal sidhiyo.. student ko suru vayo.. and vice versa..
btw u need brains to progress..too just having democracy is not enough..which it seriously lacks in the nepalese general public.. they are just good enough to build skyscrapers in their dreams..
its all fun skimming through the comments on gyanendra’s wealth.
lets not go very far, gyanendra ko bau-le afno bau tribhuvan ko kiriya garna rin linu pareko thiyo.
to those who talk about legal/illegal earning. just think why and how janakpur churot karkhana is in the verge of collapse. or is collapsed.
kathe haru lai kehi thaha hundaina. because they’re not licking the boot of khaires like you in the west.
maoists are not fool as you guys suspect. they are not going to storm till the last rays of hope for a peaceful solution exist and there is a hope for a peaceful solution.
so, gajadi says, hope for the best.
Hahaha, yeah, “kicking the ones who have differing opinions”, that is the mentality of the old masters, how to silence dissent.
And of course “a big and strong Army is needed to fight the inner enemies”. Uffh, this kind of simple mindedness is tiring and boring.
Hey Nepalese people, to finally bring these two undemocratic forces under control, who push you here and there and who are leeching your blood, stand up again for nonviolence and complete demilitarization. Dissolve the armies and instead build a strong civilian police force, to establish the rule of democratic laws.
The warlovers will always find a reason for violence, aggression and revenge. This endless wargame is ruining the development of the country and destroying the fragile network of the society.
There certainly is a break in Nepalese history now, there is a change in the consciousness of the common people, use this chance and demilitarize Nepal now.
A federal model of state should be created in Nepal, to integrate regional and ethnical differences and to allow a high level of regional autonomy and political diversity.
Do not wait for the others, they are waiting for you!
P.S.: Look at Switzerland, they set an excellent example for a federal, democratic state structure with high decentralization, minimal militarization as well as strong people’s participation…..
Don’t try to fit other’s model in Nepal. No models fit in Nepal. We have to make our own model. If you follow Maobadis model you will repent it later. Because if you have fedral structure on the basis of Castes, then we going to have big desaster in Nepal. It is for sure. Tamu will fight with kiratis and Magrat will fight with Newars. Tamang will fight Magars. It will be self destruction. Like in nuclear war,it would be MAD i. e. Mutually Assured Destruction. I think RAW has instructed both the agents of Raw, Dahal and Bhattarai, about it and they can take over Nepal very easily.
aah-chaya, lu ki vaan-cha yu limbu ko choro!

if the root of all evil is the king..then will doing away with him ASSURE peace and prosperity in the country??? or r there other players hiding in the dark ????
why is there a question of keeping the king or not. we are nepali we are proud of our sovereignty and then our country and comes our kings.have we forgotten that if it were not the kings of nepal we would now have been a part of india singing JANA GANA MANA.we would be no better than KASHMIR and NAgALAND.what we all must understand is that we needn’t live only in democracy, we must learn to live in peace and harmony where everybody has his rights to himself. our country is poor not of corruption but of regression like we’re facing today.
the so called LOKTANTRA has made people to missuse their rights.once someone great said”PRAJATANTRA BHANEKO CHADAPAN RA MANPARI GARNE KOBATO HOINA PRAJATANTRA BHANEKO SIGHO BIKAS RA SHANTI KO BATO HO”
AND TODAY’S LOKTANTRA IS A CONTRADICTION
Kirat:
I am glad that people like yourself (especially since you are from the business community) are optimistic. I think that is really important. I am concerned because I hear of these militias who continue to exthort money, kidnap etc. I think Prachanda and the Moaist leadership wants the peace process to come through but it really depends how much he can control his goons.
Hi Bhudai, this extortion diguised as ‘donation’ is a real irritant. It is hurting business and business sentiment (investing). The real frustrating thing is that the SPA Govt. has shown no interest in talking to the Maoists and telling them to stop. The SPA Govt. is just looking the other way. Still the fact that at present we can by and large get on with our business is an immense positive. It’s a long road ahead but we have never been more optimistic that over the long term these irritants will disappear as peace truly breaks all over the land.
