General Strike Day XV

Quick Updates:

State has again turned ruthless. They even took away the bodies of dead protesters from Model Hospital, Bagbazaar. As I write this, half an hour black out is being successfully observed. The authorities have extended the curfew from 8 pm to 3 am. From 3 am there is two hour break. And, again it will be resumed. But, nothing has deterred the people so far. The agitaton has reached every nook and cranny of the country. There are reports of tremendous protests across the country.

Tinkune, 6:30 PM

As I write this, around one hundred youths are chanting anti-king slogans here. One young lady asked me to join the protest even after seeing my journo card. A while ago, I saw people preparing pulthas for black out-cum-torch rally which is slated for 8:30 pm today. This shows the zeal and enthusiasm of people. They have defied curfew and come to the streets in almost all corners of Kathmandu. These young people are dreaming of new Nepal. And, any compromise that doesn’t satisfy their demands will be redundant.

According to reporter Rajaram, three protesters are killed in Kalanki today. This is the first time protesters of ongoing movement have been killed in Kathmandu Valley.

Koteshor, 2:30PM

According to Kantipur reporter Balaram Baniya, around 30 thousand protesters defied curfew in Koteshor. They marched from Madhav Nepal’s house to Koteshor Chowk. They are chanting slogans. In Koteshor, people of all walks of life have participated in the peaceful rally. They already broke three police barriers and are now staging sit-in protest. In Satdobato, two prosteters are seriously injured while other 66 are among the injured. Kantipur reporter Ujir Magar is also injured.

Shantinagar Gate, 2:00pm

Protesters coming from Khari Ko Bot captured the main road for few minutes. They were chased away by security forces.

One lakh protesters are marching from Budhanilkantha to Chabahil.

Kalanki, 1:30 PM

When police opened fire at the peaceful protest in Kalanki, many people were injured. Reporter Rajaram told us that he is handling an injured person. He said there was blood all over his hand while he was speaking to us. Similarly, in Satdobato, clashes occured. Many people are injured. In this kind of scenario, the casualties will not be known immediately. But, what we can say is, people are participating in overwhelming numbers. And, they are ready to sacrifice for a better Nepal.

According to Nepal Magazine reporter Rajaram Gautam who is in Thankot now, around one lakh protesters have gathered in Thankot. They are heading towards Kalanki. They are stretched over three kilometer in the Highway. They gathered from Satungal, Matathirtha, Dahachowk, Balambu, Gurjudhara, Syuchatar villages. Policemen have blocked in Thankot some 5-7 thousand protesters coming from different parts of Dhading.

At 12 today, all the denizens of Kathmandu are requested to go to their rooftops and chant slogans for loktantra (full democracy). In the areas around Ring Road, people are marching to defy the curfew. The processions are taking place mainly in the suburban areas such as Bhaisepati, Satdobato, Chabahil, Kalanki, Gongabu, Kirtipur, Mandikhatar etc.

Hundreds of protesters are marching towards city. But, the core of the city is wearing a deserted look. In Baneshor, there’s a lull; few people are seen requesting security personnel to allow them to cross the road or run errands.

Meanwhile, Indian special envoy Karan Singh and Foreign Secretary Shyam Sharan are busy meeting political leaders. Today morning, they met Surya Bahadur Thapa and Pashupati Shamsher Rana. King is rumored to give speech calling the political parties for dialogue.

We will not accept anything lower than the elections of Constituent Assembly with international and UN observation. This the bottomline of our negotiation with KG. No less no more. We must have the chance and opportunity our fate ourselves. I think that Girirja and Makune’s day are numbered because if they agree lower than CA they would be killed by the Maoists next day.

I have been hearing a lot about constitutional assembly. What is this about ? What models do we have that can be applicable to Nepal ? Will the brutal Maoists ever allow a rfee and fair election of CA members ?

    Be Careful!!!

    * Sitaram Yechuri CPI (M) will be coming Kathmandu today or tomorrow to the discussion with political parties. Without addressing the Maoist demand and SPA demand of constitutional assembly Nepal current problem will not solved say Harkisan Singh Surjit ex. General Sectry of CPI (M)- Indian Express

    * BJP will send to Jaswant Singh (ex foreign minister) on 24th April as an envoy of a Hindu base organization RSS & BHP of India. Those who like to King as a monarch of Hindu Kingdom- Hindustan Times

    * Dr. Karan Singh & Shyam Saran meet the King today and propose their package. It is possible that King will be address to the nation to night.- NDTV India

In real sense, there are some news of fact and most of scope of these Indian news media. Moreover we Nepalese people difficult to believe our political leader in this moment because of our all political stream influence by India.

    hey u ajaya

You might wanna be slave of [icd] Indians but not 2.5 million Nepalese out here ok.
What do you think everyone’s hand in Nepal is soaked with BLOOD.
How did Madan Bhandari and Jeevraj died?

I would rather stay under King than those [icd] indians.

And what do you know these leaders can never be trusted just look at their corruption list so we ALWAYS NEED KING.

I am astonished why Ajaya calls the KG a murderer while fails to say anything against the Maoist leaders who have murdered thousands just because they disagreed with their ridiculous policies.

This whole saga started because of SPA.
Why are they blaming KG ? Why can not SPA form a coalition government as requested by KG.

CA will only send the country into deep uncertainity and turmoil for years. Nobody knows what CA will bring…

I have pity for slaves of the king. We must be the master of our own destiny. We must be able to preserve our own Nation based on our education, economic development and equal opportunities. If Nepalese do not take pride in Nepal. They want to be lahure and they do not want or can not keet it, god help them.

Hello Seshyan I dont know why you are saying that if there is not king then no country.

Can you give me a single example which of our shah king has done good for the country, except for pritivinarayan.

So Nepal will never come up untill there is a monarcy. Can you imagine that the money that is used to feed the king’s family can bring up alot of thing in a district.
At least if there is people’s rule later or sooner the country will progress.

In the people rules you have a option open to the prime ministers chair. even you can make that way if you wish but this is not possible in the kings rule

So its time to think on that

This is how the king is earning

The income of Nepali king Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev is :
2,426 times higher than that of Chinese president
318 times higher than that of Indian president
301 times higher than that of Pakistani president
173 times higher than that of Russian president
57 times higher than that of French president
15 times higher than that of British president
10 times higher than that of American president

There should be no confusion that Nepal will remain a sovereign Country whether we have Gyanendra or Girija or Madhav or not.
But this is not the question here.
And the question is who is there to guide us to a republic.
Who do you want to see as our president?
Krishna Prasad or Girija or Madhav Nepal or ..who, who, who?
    And another question is
Are these hoolignans who come forcing people to take part in the protest and making loud noise force people to switch off the light are capable of bringing a change in the country. Obviously not.
Even if they succeed what system they would bring?
    Hoolicracy, yes Hoolicracy!
Now people are supporting out of fear than anything else. They fear being called a mandale. People are confused. They do not beleive the leaders.
I feel like vomiting when i imagine girija back as a prime minister along with his corrupt ministers and UML in the street protesting while destroying public properties. But this will not simply happen becoz the Nepali Congress is a lost case. Rather it would be the UML along with the Maoists who would rule the country. And the western democracies will create problem because of their communist ideologies. See what is happenning in Palestine.

But this will not also happen becoz india now doesnot want the communists to rule Nepal. They are really afriad of this as they fear rise of communists in India a cause du Nepal.

I am confused i donot have a roadmap as i belong to the ignorant mass. Perhps you guys much educated and experienced have a clear cut idea on what you want but i do not have. Sorry!

Even when I was an ardent supporter of the king and thought Nepal had no future without monarchy, I always wondered what made ‘Shreeman Ghamvira’ the Nepali national anthem. It would make me laugh when Nepali football players with the hands on their heart would sing the very anthem before any international game. The anthem does nothing to the spirit of the men, let alone the fact of making the opponents tremble. It’s not a national anthem by any means, for it glorifies the king alone. So ladies and gentlemen, in the spirit of the change that we’re anticipating, allow me to present before you a new national anthem:

‘Raato Ra Chandra Surya, Jangi Nisaana Hamro,
Jiudo Ragat Sari Yo, Baldo Yo Saana Hamro,
Himaal Jhai Aatal Yo, Jhukena Yo Kahile, Latrena Yo Kahile, Jangi Nisaana Hamro….’

Shouldn’t this timeless classic be our new national anthem? I get goose-bumps whenever I hear or sing this song. It may not be the ‘Haka’ of the New Zealander’s, there is no war dance here, but it sure fires the blood. What do you guys think? Got a better option? If that’s the case, let us know.

INSN Says: Bhattarai Rejects King’s Proposal
Former Prime Minister and senior Congress leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai has rejected King Gyanendra’s proposal for him to accept to become Prime Minister.

King Gyanendra sent his personal secretary Pashupati Bhakta Maharjan to Bhattarai with the proposal.

Bhattarai told Maharjan that the King should first restore democracy in the country. “Ask the King to first return rule to the people and accept the demands of SPA.”

“I am in no hurry to become Prime Minister”, Bhattarai told Maharjan.

As a citizen of Nepal I demand this conversation to live telecast on local televisions, radios, FM stations, we want to be a part of this dialogue. We are sorry leaders we cannot completely trust you anymore.

And for those leaders who tell king and their conversation can not be completely revealed publicly- if you are gathered to talk about public issues, you do not have right to sip a cup of public tea to discuss your private chat.

    hi there,
one thing i don’t understand is why do people say ” why not blame the maoists, why not not form a temp govt as said by the king.. why blame all only the king…”

well, why do u guys prefer the king over leaders. yes, most of the big name leaders are corrupt but our gadha king is no bigger patriot.the guy who sells national treasure, drug lord, the royal massacre (come on people, don’t say dipendra did that). saying dipendra did all that is like hatkela ley surya dhakeyko. KG is much much much worse than anything that could happen to our country. when he seized power, he could have done a lot because he was the sole power and had all the authority to do everything.. but alas… no progress.. things got worst. in the democracy, PM doesnt have a sole power like gyanebahadur has. things need to get approved and passed.

right now, KG is a one man govt. we can’t say anything to him. no press freedom.. what the hell? what is he thinking? the longer he bahaves soooo immaturely, the deeper he’s digging his own grave. so in a way, i’m glad.

yes i know that our leaders have played a big part for this current situation but we’ve had democracy for a short time whereas the Shahs have ruled for quite a while. democracy takes time to flourish. it’s like a little kid that needs to mature and grow, and learn. and don’t forget, it’s also us who have played a big part in all this chaos. i hope that our nepali citizens will not fall for the traps of our leaders. so much blood has been shed, and so many others injured. now we don’t accept anything less than a republic. after all this, if we still have a king (even if it’s just a ceremonial head), girija or bhattarai, or deuba as PM, then we would be where we were! we can’t let this to happend. nepal has awakened! nepalese from all over have awakened. we need a new leadership with new fresh visions, someone who has the honesty and dignity to take our country into the future. we cannot and must let our martyrs blood be forgotten and fail all those people who had the courage to face the police brutality. time has come and that’s now. this is the defining moment in our history and we are living to expericence it. we all bear the responsibility for our future generations. we have to take nepal and put in on the path of development.

to those who have taken part, taking part and will take part in the demonstrations, i salute you.
to the martyrs: dherai dherai dhanyabad, may you rest in peace and we promise not to let your sacrifice go in vain.
to the corrupt leaders (you know who you are), i got three words: go to hell
to the king and paras: rot in hell

summary of my post: A NEW REPUBLIC WITH NEPAL, GYANENDRA IN EXILE, NO OLD LEADERSHIP, WE NEED A NEW LEADER(S).
