Be Nepal’s Valentine

Nepali youth should rise now for their love to the country

BY PREM DHAKAL

It’s that time of the year again when the chilly cold makes way for the heartwarming rays of the Sun. Yes, it’s February once again and most of us youths are eagerly waiting for the 14th to celebrate the Valentine’s Day.

We have been celebrating the day by expressing our love, especially for the opposite sex, for the last few years. But considering the present scenario we, for once, should show some affection to our country Nepal as well and dedicate this Valentine Day to it. The time for a little introspection has come for sure.

For long we have been shirking away from our responsibilities toward our motherland. We have been casually turning our backs on the burning issues saying that it’s none of our business.

But when the fire reaches our backyard, it has to become very much our business. When the security persons, who are supposed to protect us, start to point the guns menacingly at us, it has got to be our business. And when the Home Minister shamelessly authorizes the security persons to kill anyone on their discretion, it definitely has to be our business.

How long can we pretend to be oblivious? How much more can we bend to adjust our daily routines to the bandhs that pop up every other week? How long can we silently tolerate the authorities cutting off our land and mobile lines? How long can we helplessly watch the cold-blooded murders of our fellow countrymen?

It surely has to stop somewhere. But the trouble is – it won’t stop anytime soon if we keep on being lackadaisical. It won’t stop because this regime doesn’t want it to.

The Maoists have put forward their conditions and agreed to put down their weapons for an unconditional election of the constituent assembly. Maoist Supremo ‘Prachanda’ has even vowed to accept an active monarch, if the people go for it.

But what keeps this ‘popular’ regime from accepting a constituent assembly election. Everything, except the national integrity, can be considered to end the bloodshed.

The Royal regime has been shouting from the rooftops bragging about its popularity. So, why does it hesitate to go for the election that it apparently can win hands down?

It surely is not worried about the expenditure for the election, whose result it is so secure about. Moreover the regime, which can airlift party cadres of Home Minister Kamal Thapa to the capital and spend crores on the farcical municipal elections, must have the wherewithals to conduct an election for the constituent assembly.

But this regime won’t go for the election because it thrives on the blood of the innocents. It definitely won’t go for it, unless we force it to.

Ironically, this regime flourishes due to our indifference. The day each and every one of us takes to the streets, this regime would be forced to consider the options for peace.

And this regime knows it. So, it is planning to alienate us further from the reality, in the name of stopping politicization of the youths, through youth policy. Who the hell are these ministers to tell us what we should be doing and what not.

A little bit of political awareness is never hazardous to the youths. On the contrary, it will prove beneficial. We would not have been in this quagmire in the first place, had we been aware as the corrupt politicians could not have taken us for a ride.

The political parties, though not purged of their sins, and the civil society are fighting against the autocratic regime. We must join them before – as Lord Nelson famously warned – there won’t be anyone to stand up for us.

The election for the constituent assembly may not be the panacea for all our sufferings but we can always give peace a chance.

The coward regime may kill us (what more can we expect from this barbaric regime) but there will certainly be other auspicious days to woo our love, if we remain alive. And what a life that would be for the war-ravaged citizens!!!!!!!!

    Dear PREM DHAKAL,
What i think is there is no nepali who doest have love and affection for our country.Even those who have left nepal for foreign green card love this country(though i am not one of them).
What i think i we have been ignored by limited number of people who rule nepal. Not only the Royalist but also the leaders and maoist. All of them want to impose their rule for their interest.
We as the sons and daughters of this nation want to get an opportunity to serve this country, but instead we have been alienated by the rulers.Even during the 12 years of the democracy the youths had no say.
I think this is exactly what the enemy if nepal namely Indians want. They never want us to be developed, they want us to be one of their puppets. So the only way of saving out country is kicking the indians, royalist, indian puppet leaders and the maoist barbarians.
    God bless Nepal.

It is not a Valentine’s day. We Nepali should call it a VAMPIRE’S DAY.

Today I heard one Vampire saying: Now It’s Turn for Parliamentary Polls, No Talks With Maoists.

Story does not end here. We have to wait what another group of Vampires has to say?

Funny thing is that our neighbours have not stopped the supply of Blood Sucking instruments to them.

Till when we have to wait the Sunshine which destroys the Vampires?

    Prakash,
Your suggestions do NOT LOVE NEPAL , rather condemns Nepal to eternal war.
The Maoist are a part of the eventual solution reguardless of what you think, without the Mabadi and the 7-Parties comming to the Peace Table Nepal will soon not exist.
KG will soon take his killer-son Pares and go into exile, so there will be 2 PLAYERS
    #1 The RNA
    #2 The Mabadi & the 7-Parties

The Youth have a big part to play in the New Democratic Republic but they must be intelligent not reactionary if they want to lead !

    Dear Mr. Prem Dhakal,

    greetings!

Like you are, I used to think it the same way but once I was exiled, only then did I realise the degree of how much patriotic and a burning desire I had to serve my nation – in any way possible!. Given the unity that nepalese peoples’ prostest in one word “PEACE”, there’s no doubt, the national integrity among our fellow citizens is still alive.

It was a mere gimmick which was being famed by lunatic party leaders making a false information during the time of election. Our citizens (we)’ve been framed and defrauded of their (our) valuable votes, which, if only in other democratic countries would it have been a life changing factor, driving the nation into more the prosporous land. Which Nepali doesn’t want their endear motherland to be developed? But those leaders who were designed for what they were supposed to be doing, why they have not been doing any thing – any thing at all!? The facts and evidences are right in front of us but despite all that we haven’t lost our national unity.

In terms of showing a interest to country, there should be more opportunities. Our countrymen are not unaware about what one has to do, in this regard of national integration & consideration.

But in some way you are right too as people are very much ignorant – ignorant in this sense, that despite being bullied and fooled by scum leaders, majority of them still are following them. Not only this, peoples are very much ignorant about every little thing they do, based in my experience. We are lacking self-discipline.

Besides it’s a kinda common interest of all Nepalese to have to come and be ONE incontext of making their concern heard for the betterment of endear motherland.

Next, I agree in your saying that students must know the political situations of ones own country because they are for sure the leaders or scholars of days to come.

    If not student, who else?

Furthermore, I don’t know whether there’s any propaganda on it too, but the move Maoist supremo had made is indeed likely to welcome, after hearing the utterance of withdrawn of arms and banning any further bandhs in the country. There’s, afterall, no benefit by saying mero goru ko barahai takka after all!

    Hi Michael,
I dont wan’t to debate with you about nepalese politics. But i want to make it clear that, there are a lot of people who will not believe in barbaris maoist and those puppet indian leaders.Never think that our opposition to the royal regime is love for barbarians and indians.

King should be kicked but those puppets indian leaders should be hanged in Ratnapark. Those junglee barbarians should be put on trial for crime against humanity.

STOP KILLING YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS NOW!

As Nepali people are squeezed between two violent forces only nonviolence can break the deadly downward spiral.

The mass of the people wants neither the king nor the rebels nor the parties to rule. As violence increases the parties seem to be the least violent option of the people.

Just one thing becomes transparent to each and everyone day by day. It cannot go on like this any longer.

Maoist rebels and kings and soldiers and officers are altogether human beings. They are brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters, they are our own brothers and sisters, our own flesh and blood, if we like it or not.

So stop these killings now by all means. Stand up against being punished by two evil masters.

King Kong says: Kings are human history…

    King Kong,
You got it correct. It is not RNA, Maoist, or civilian that is killed, it is a Nepali.
Without Peace among all parties, and all stake-holders Nepal will never be the great nation of Peace it can become !!

it is true that it is not about the opposite sex to express how much u love. What ever or wherever there comes the country first then people then tradition and race. if your country is good and everthing is fine then we can think about love but love is most important. love ur country and love all. youth must be united and think better.
