Maoist 'Revolutionary' is the Prime Minister of Nepal

In what will go on the pages of the history books as one of the most important days of Nepal, Maoist revolutionary (and leader of an outfit that was branded terrorist until two years ago) Pushpa Kamal Dahal (aka Prachanda) has been elected the Prime Minister of Nepal by a majority of votes in the Constituent Assembly this evening. Nepali Congress, second largest party in the assembly, was the opponent that filed separate candidacy. Sher Bahadur Dueba, senior Congress leader and three time prime minister, was defeated (he got 113 votes vs 464 of Dahal). Many other fringe parties supported the Maoist led alliance that included third largest CPN UML. Chairman of the CA in his capacity as the Speaker of the House of Representative announced the results a few seconds ago.

The Background:

Virtually all parties among the total 25 elected to the CA announced their support to the former teacher-turned-politician Prachanda, while People’s Front Nepal and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party boycotted the election. The CPN-UML and the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) had formed an alliance with the Maoist yesterday. Both parties are expected to join the cabinet. UML general secretary Jhalanath Khanal, speaking in the CA, floated a proposal recommending Maoist chairman Prachanda as the Prime Minister for the next government, while MPRF chairman Upendra Yadav also turned his support to Prachanda. Likewise, Maoist second-in-command Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai, on behalf of the party, condemned NC for going against the Maoist-led alliance. He also announced the party’s support for chairman Prachanda. In the build-up to the vote casting period, Sarita Giri of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (NSP-A), Narayan Kaji Shrestha of CPN-Masal, Chandra Dev Joshi of CPN-United, Malwar Singh Thapa of Rastriya Janamukti Party, Buddha Ratna Manandhar of Nepa: Rastriya Party, Gayatri Shah of Nepal Janata Dal and Nepal Pariwar Dal supported UML chief Khanal’s proposal before CA chairman Subash Chandra Nemwang. Likewise, formerly the hardcore pro-monarch party Rastriya Prajatantra Party- Nepal has also supported the CPN-Maoists, which had strongly voiced for the abolition of the monarchy.

    Bravo to the new PM,

Admist the vultures of the old government, who have dragged Nepal to new lows, finally a breath of fresh air. A man with ideology and the power to enforce it. I’m very optimistic about our new PM and I hope that finally after years of waiting we will finally get to see the beginning of construction of a new better Nepal.

    Congratulation Mr. Prachanda

I hope you will take up things right and make them right in Nepal. We have seen Congress and UML ruling Nepal for more than a decade resulting to hell, now lets see what Mr. prachanda has in mind. Guys lets give them a chance. Its really too early to comment on them.
And I do not understand why people are fighting like cats and dogs pahade nad madhesi shit.We are one of the smallest country in the world and people have divided themselves into regions.

I believe most of the bloggers here are abroad with BIG foreign degrees but still we believe in regionalism and racism. We divide ourself with words like Pahade and Madhishe. Why cant we unit?

Guys change your thinking, Change yourself FIRST and then think to Change the Country.

Nepal is in very difficult phase of it’s history. In one side we have to know that Prachanda have become primeminister of Nepal and on otherside what we have to know is that there is a huge section of population who have disbilief in Maoist. So Prachanda have very bumpy road ahead of him.In one side he hav3e to please population by providing them with security and stable government .In other side as he heads coaliation government he have to listen and work in the will of coaliation partners.Beside this there is a immense task of drafting constitution. So he should work with all the major playersof Nepal to draft a constution which should be acceptable to all.The success of Maoist in Nepal depends on the fact that how can Prachanda guide Nepal through this immensly difficult phase of Nepal.Otherwise he will be remembered as person who had been primeminister of Nepal.

Ofcourse party and its leader will get some ministry of Nepal but the words which this party has given to we poor madheshis, what about that. It seems that the party has forget that by the help of which UPENDRA YADAV has reached to that post which he could not even think.
Does he make we madheshis just a lader to reach at the place where he is now?
This is the time when we have to ask him.

I wonder why Prachanda saved this tie for this occasion! He could have worn it all the time! Or is he in “gai jatra” mood??? Or does he feel that this new responsibility is like a rope around his neck???!!! …..But poor bramins n chhetris, they seem not to have found a dress to represent their ethnicity! Maybe a dhoti would have suited a brahmin! But maybe he wants to symbolize his superiority by wearing a western dress- when everyone else is fighting for his/ her right to speak mother tongue and wear cultural dresses, he has moved ahead for westernization………… or is it for a faster change? After all it is the West that we always see as an ideal in everything!

But dont u think our daura surwal has become out of fashion. While saree has always succeeded in staying in fashion and adored by most of the ladies, daura remains an orthodox. I hope some of our fashion designers start updating our ‘daura’, so that one day the president of US would take oath in daura-surwal!
I feel myself foolish all of a sudden! What was the meanig of all those protests against our vice president for taking oath in Hindi when our ‘ choosen one’ could take oath in suit and tie without suffering a single protest! Are those two situations not similar? But maybe this is our inborn charecter…….. to praise the one who wins……… no matter how he wins!

So much of protest against VP Parmanda Jha for adopting a foreign language during oath taking ceremony and none against PM Prachanda for adopting a foreign dress only signifies that the country is biased against the people who are Maithils, Bhojpuris and as a whole madhesis. Analyising the history and other evidences such direct talks with people from nepali-speaking community, people from nepali-speaking community are very sad to see two people from maithili-speaking community on the post of Prez and V-Prez. Believe it or not, thts the truth. If you wanna find more details, ask yourself, ask your family and ask your friends. A huge number of nepalese lack information on the history and cultural significance of Mithila…. talk to them and they only utter derogatory words against maithils.
I know its no use writing in forums like this on such a topic but then i still hope that i have done my duty if i could change the biased thinking of people from nepali-speaking community.

    Hi,
this is in response to what nirab has to say about communists.
i really pity his knowledge, maoist , stalinist ,leninist ,all are marxists inspired by marxism . out of ignorance he is underestimating the power of the ideology ,the mighty USSR became a superpower in just twenty years after becoming a socialist country ,all the colonial countries of asia and africa draw inspiration from it for their freedom movement in the twentieth century, besides achieving food, medical security and education for all for its people.contrary to this in india we are now a democracy for more than sixty years and 77% of our people are still living with a earning of Rs.20/ a day ,
without any social security .what does this democracy holds for them?and at last but not the least the spectacular achievements of china, what does Nirab thinks is the secret of china’s success? it is only the power of socialism. taking out millions and millions of people out poverty is no joke and surely not the cup of tea of the American inspired monkeys!!!!

Please do not forget many Nepalese people gave their blood in people’s war and now King Gyanendra is living in jungle instead of Narayanhiti Palace. How it could be possible? Anyone who is opposing Maoist can he or she tell me that had you ever thought it was possible without Maoist? One political change is made and here remains economic change. And I think the maoist can not do magic in few months. Let us hope for new Nepal a develop Nepal. At least Maoist gave us hope and dream of New Nepal. Maoist has vision for new Nepal and their attempt for it can be feel. Can any one suggest whichelse party have any greater vision than Maoist for a new and better Nepal?

Prachanda is a muderer. I wish he live a life of a street dog.

His 1 wish to be a country’s PM took thousands of lives. Even today when he is a PM, no 1 is secured of his own life even in the closed room of his house. Is this the New Nepal we were seeking? This is a hell period in Nepal’s history and I guess it will continue till ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… my vision.
